My15yo daughter was so exhausted after rowing in a quad on Sunday that she had to be helped out if the boat. She was soaked to the skin after a downpour before the race started. Her assessment of it all? ‘Lots of fun.’ Rowers are mad.

Dr Carla Hayden was a truly great Librarian of Congress. It is an outrage that she has been sacked - a national shame on the United States. I had the pleasure of knowing her and working with her - she’ll continue to do good in the next phase of her career whatever that is.

I’ve stated it before (and used to mention it when I did a VL at UCL) - librarianship has shifted during my career. My FT PG course at Aber (funded with a bursary) was pretty diverse over 30 years ago (by most measures of diversity).
