We finished planting a total of 1,650 trees on this hillside as part of a natural flood management scheme, which will also include a series of living leaky dams in the clough below to slow the flow of water and help reduce flooding further downstream whilst also providing wildlife habitats. #NFM
We had another productive day at the community tree nursery yesterday, lifting Downy Birch in preparation for our tree planting volunteer day on Thursday, 26th February. A huge thank you to our lovely regular volunteers and crew who make our weekly Friday sessions such a joy ππ±

Satisfying day planting 528 free range trees with excellent volunteers and good crew last week on one of our sites with protective deer netting around the full perimeter to keep deer out ππ³ Most of the trees were grown at our community tree nursery in Mytholmroyd.

Stellar effort from our brilliant volunteer Toby with removing these big stones from the Sessile Oak field bed. The roots had found their way between the gaps, but this made it difficult to lift the trees without damaging the roots so the rocks had to come out.

We had a satisfying day free-range tree planting this week. Sessile Oak and Downy Birch grown at our Daisy Bank community tree nursery, some of which were over 1.5m metre tall, planted with help from lovely volunteers. Thanks to everyone who came and helped with planting and all the nursery prep ππ
Thank you, we are very lucky to have all these brilliant people helping at the nursery every week π
It was a very muddy day at Daisy Bank community tree nursery today with getting trees ready for planting next week π Loving the commitment from all involved today with getting the last of the Pedunculate Oak lifted by all means necessary πππ±
All nice and dry before a soggy day on a slippery slope installing #fascines to help reduce erosion and slow the flow of water. Despite the not so ideal weather, it was very scenic and mystical π
Our wonderful regular volunteer Margot and Dan from @calderdale.bsky.social mulched the trees planted at Calder Holmes Park in Hebden Bridge π³
These trees were planted as part of 40 trees donated from our Daisy Bank community tree nursery to commemorate 40 years of the @womencentre.bsky.social π
Lots of deep digging going on today to lift these deep-rooted pedunculate oak and the odd self seeded willow. Working in good company and lovely sunshineπ
We are looking forward to planting these fabulous trees in February π³ Give us a shout if you fancy joining us for one of our tree planting days.
Fencing in preparation for tree planting this season. Adapted stock fencing with alternating 8ft posts for adding deer netting to keep sheep and deer out so the larger trees grown at Daisy Bank community tree nursery can stay free range and be planted without individual deer guards and stakes π³
Another productive day at the tree nursery π± Due to the frozen ground and forecasted rain, we spent the day in the barn processing and preparing seeds trays with seeds we collected locally. If all goes to plan, the trays should germinate in spring, and the seedlings pricked out later in the year.
Happy New Year π« We had a frosty start to the year for our first Friday session of the year at Daisy Bank community tree nurseryπ±
We spent the day lifting Pedunculate Oak, grading them and heeling them back into the ground in preparation for planting this season.

It's been a productive day at the tree nursery as part of our usual weekly Friday volunteer day. The empty sections of the main field beds are being weeded and covered with cardboard over winter, so they are prepared for broadcasting seeds and planting out seedlings in spring.
