Like, I get annoyed at artists for checking in stuff that tanks our frame rate. They get annoyed at me for my fun police "no, you can't put 100 enemies in this level" or asking "but why do you _need_ that new button in the editor". But we discuss, adapt, move on, cause we can't make it alone

This is something I have come to appreciate about working in the games industry: you have engineers, artists, and designers all working closely together. Of course you still butt heads, but there is a genuine appreciation for each other's craft and a camaraderie that helps avoid this weird tribalism

I got three dental implants put in today. After each one, the periodontist was like "Beautiful. You're doing great" and I'm sitting there like

God, every time I bike down Hammond Pond Pkwy I have to white knuckle the whole way through. Newton has done some great cyclist/pedestrian improvements on it north of Rt 9, but south of it is still a shitshow

Vance and Rubio may struggle to hold the whole coalition together (even the current admin is struggling), but someone is going to try "MAGA sans Trump" and it's best not to get cocky. He has no successors because most cults and autocracies avoid naming one, but that doesn't mean one won't show up

I'm of three minds:
1. Someone like Trump was almost certainly going to come about in 2016 after 6 years of Tea Party R's
2. He has a genuinely unique "talent" as you say, like Jobs' Reality Distortion Field
3. 2028 and beyond, R's will try to ape him, and some will have some measure of success

I don't want this to be read as justifying any of what happened, and I assume the fact that most of the US writes off that part of the world is also a factor

I'm just a layperson, but from what I remember reading at the time, this was complicated by the fact that N-K was internationally recognised as Azerbaijan territory? Which meant you can (and should) express moral outrage over it, but it becomes harder to formulate a specific policy plan against it?

but I haven't gotten personal experience w/ it. There are also a bunch of various tweaks, optimisations, and bug fixes that 5.x has gotten, but also a ton of known issues that are still open. And a lot of stuff in 5.3 - 5.6 that I can't really speak to

3 weeks ago 0 0 0 0

I only got to experience 5.0, 5.1, and 5.2 (and that was a couple years ago), but I'd say 5.2 is where it started to actually feel stable. There are some genuinely good improvements (not just rendering stuff, but the One File Per Actor stuff, Anim BP changes, etc.). The PCG stuff looks interesting-

honestly, A lot of the places I tried in Portland were okay, but not stand-out. Except this donut place that used potatos in their dough: that was a banger

How to escape single quotes within single quoted strings Let's say, you have a Bash alias like: alias rxvt='urxvt' which works fine. However: alias rxvt='urxvt -fg '#111111' -bg '#111111'' won't work, and neither will: alias rxvt='urxvt -fg \'#111111...

h/t to gcb on SO for this: stackoverflow.com/questions/12...

TIL: Bash doesn't do backslash escaping of single quotes in a single quote string. e.g.
```
echo 'don\'t'
```
does not work. So instead, you want to chain single and double quoted strings like so:
```
echo 'don'"'"'t'
```
(if that's visually hard to parse, the middle is <SQ> <DQ> <SQ> <DQ> <SQ>)

Made Princess Cake. Nice enough, but it is a lot of work (and sooo many dishes 😓). Jam is stronger than you expect, so best to go scant. Ended up overcooking the sponge cake, so extra milk soak or cream helps combat that

That's how DLSS 1 worked (you'd train it on your own game's screenshots/style), but they removed it in later versions and just use Nvidia's generic model because that's too much work I guess

I'm don't know for sure either way, but I could definitely believe that:
- Such assholery was shorter and less intense, as opposed to the sort of background radiation that is a lot of anti-semitism
- It did not escape online containment as much as invocations of I/P

I broadly agree, but people yelling and cussing at random Russians (even people who are ethnically Russian but not living there) is definitely something that happened during the first couple years of the war, at least online. I assume it waned as mainstream news sources got bored covering the war
