Something up quick.
“Quick”
Just Like Power and a Pump from the oil lol. I’ll leave actually colonizing that planet for later. I want to focus on space and planets with new (non-petroleum) resources!!

I’ve been trying to avoid oil and petroleum as much as possible. Mostly because there aren’t any sources of it on the planet, but it’s also so important to most playthroughs so it’s been fun to rely on other liquids. I’m hoping to send just one Dupe to the teleporter planet and have them set
I’m finally tired of having to rely on cool brine from geyser and the annoyance of dormancy etc, so now, 750 cycles in, I think I finally need petroleum. It seems like the only liquid that can be used as coolant in a refinery for steel and still power a steam turbine, power positive :)
I think I’ve got everything set up real nice and I’m gonna get started on some real industry for a space program. I’ve got plastic production going great, now I just need metal and ceramics. Already getting started on the cooling for ceramic and shipping so it’s fully automated. For the metal…
I got it working perfectly how I wanted! Automation is so so fun.
I have this setup working full-time now. I do feel bad for the sweepy and flydo who have nothing to do whenever there’s not water. The flydo kept trying to escape and do other tasks until I put a door with no robot permission :(
“you all deserve to rot in hell” isn’t a death threat
A picture of a library shelf with a small rolled up note on it. The note says “read this” in child’s handwriting.
A picture of the note unrolled. In the same child’s handwriting it reads “beware of the future!!”
Still thinking about this note I found in the children’s section of the public library when I worked there back in 2018. This kid tried to warn us…
In the back of my brain will be fully satisfied and I can focus on actual progression…
Counter. Honestly it’s a really fun tool! It’s a shame you kinda have to come up with your own reason to use them because this is definitely not necessary… but now i should be able to use one with a logic gate or two to count up and activate the second valve every third cycle. Then, that little itch
The system will average out at exactly 500kg/cycle and there will never be any standing water :)
I’ve already got the first valve spitting out exactly 480kg a cycle (I’m realizing now that 480 is below the 500kg limit and I didnt need a signal counter… 😖) and I’ve gotten my first taste of a signal
So here’s what I’m picturing: 2 meter valves, both set to 60kg and set up with a cycle sensor. At the beginning of every cycle, the first one sends 8 packets of 60kg (480 kg). Then, the second meter valve sends another packet of 60kg on every 3rd day. Now, as long as I prefill with a bit of snow,
Ice machine works in batches of 60 kg at a time! My worry is that if I just pipe 500 kg of water to the setup every cycle then the leftover water could freeze to ice in the system before it becomes snow. This might not even be a problem in practice, but I’m having a lot of fun here solving this so..
To deliver the bottles to the machine (which has several mechanics I’ve never engaged with before). Finding out how to deal with the batteries for the flydo will be fun. But in the meantime, I have a problem…
I’m consuming exactly 500 kg of snow every day (5 domestic bonbon trees). But the
If it’s ever possible. Keep my dupes time freed up for building, ranching, and operating, or doing whatever menial task I need done quickly 😁.
So I remembered that someone online had made an automated setup for ice makers using a sweepy to mop up water (something I’ve never used before) and a flydo
The bottles into the machine. That’s not really a problem because most of the time I don’t have enough tasks set up for my dupes and they just idle! Buuutt… it’s kinda out of the way from the main living area, and at some point some people are going to have to go to space, so I’d rather automate
Now that I’m running out of snow (not really but my brain refuses to let me get even close to using up a non-renewable resource when there is a renewable source of it) I’m looking into setting up a fully automated ice-maker to turn water to snow. Ice-makers usually require dupe operation to load
I’ll probably end up vacuuming these areas out, but it’s been a lot more fun using automation to avoid water standing in pipes, slowly freezing because it’s not moving and causing damage. For the most part, just setting up a meter valve at the storage and sending a reset signal when more is needed.
The overall cold on ceres minor has had a lot of fun challenges. At this point, most of the living quarters are warm enough (or super hot in the case of the barrack’s wood burners I set up on cycle 1 and just left running for 500 cycles 😅) but the outer edges in between builds are still -40!
A randomly generated book from the game Caves of Qud, the title reads "I'm a Dead Monkey, Vol. IV"
- 'America has the military power to do whatever it wants anywhere in the world'
- immediately loses war to Iran.
Yeah I’ll call my senators. Call em a dumb ass.
Me: so yeah I had the idea when I misheard “salt and pepper” and I think taking on these personas will get us out of this writing funk.
My deranged bandmate: Oh yes, Sgt. Pepper… this will be a perfect opportunity to write a song about rocking horse people eating marshmallow pies! 😈
Year of poetry may be over but I still like to play around with repetition and alignment etc.
I don’t know what I was on about here
I don’t even really like sushi.
I do like to brag though that the fanciest meal I ever had was a sushi Omakase 😈🤑🎩🍣
This is an entirely false, even ludicrous threat. The Ukrainians have enough to do without starting a second war in Hungary. But Orbán, his government, his party, and many outsiders are now focused on making this threat seem true. Pay attention, because this may be the future of electoral politics: Multiple politicians from several countries are shoveling propaganda at an electorate in order to build terror of an enemy that doesn’t exist at all.
Yes perhaps it is 'on me' for reading an Atlantic column and this is not to undersell the situation in Hungary but: you're telling me the future is something that's been happening, at a rather conservative estimate, for at least the past six years???
You call it sushi. I call it yum-shi, because of how yummy it is
Yeah sadly I’m not above that too. I’ve got stainless steel pots and pans when I can’t use the skillet, but the only saucepan I’ve got (and it’s usually the best size I need) is a 15 year old non-stick that is more scratches than teflon at this point
I’ve spent maybe 60 cycles working on this… it’s almost ready I think. I’ve had to rollback like 3 times so far because I’ve been working on like 4 parts in parallel and the mercury heater kept having issues where a little bit of mercury would vaporize and leak more heat and fill up a huge vacuum
I re-seasoned my cast iron pan recently and cooking with it now feels like a superpower.
But once I run out I’ll have huge backlog of rust that I can either deoxidize or maybe even melt! That’ll be a fun project 1000 cycles down the line…
