Remarkable # scotus reporting! “Even as they debated the Obama plan’s possible burden on the power industry, in the entire chain of correspondence obtained by The Times, not a single justice … mentioned the dangers of a warming planet as one of the possible harms the court should consider.”

About 10 days left to enter the lottery to attend upcoming #scotus arguments, including on 2nd Amendment, takings, and appeal rights. #law blogs.gwu.edu/zwolfe/2026/...
The #trans student-athlete cases are getting most of the attention, followed closely by the one about the #Fed, but in January #SCOTUS will hear other important cases concerning state suits against oil companies and concealed weapons on private property. blogs.gwu.edu/zwolfe/2026/...
Thoughtful article with some jury instructions and other details I was looking for. mastodon.social/@lawfare/115...
Thanks! That seems more like it, although it’s an interesting notion that it should be “reasonable person wearing a bulletproof vest and trained as a leo”
Do we know if there was a jury instruction that there had to be fear of serious bodily injury?
But I wanted to hold on to that false hope a bit longer! Oh but you’ve offered another - yes, fingers crossed for that! Truly, the best physical space for a patio bar, Simon’s and others’ pours are special and in the proper tradition of this place, and all the other staff would be such a huge loss.
I want to engage in wishful thinking too, but I have to note it's not really an "announcement" (it's the same HH they always have and periodically post) and I clicked a random post from Sept that also has a 703 number. But love that you're on it & posted that history! And let's hope you're right!
My haunt for more than 25 years. So many special gatherings and random happy hours. Connections with servers and bartenders. Watched Obama’s election on their TV - they brought out champagne. Watched T’s election and marched in shock to the WH. Seriously can’t believe we’re losing this place.
My segment on #hatecrimes #law starts at 27:55. Thanks for having me, #lawandDisorder! Pleasure to have the chance to connect this area of research to #teaching and #highered.
Thanks for having me!
The concurrence improperly shifts the burden onto an entire class of citizens to carry enough documentation to prove that they deserve to walk freely. The Constitution does not permit the creation of such a second-class citizenship status.
Thoughtful perspective here, worth thinking about along with J Sotomayor’s dissent. I’m also thinking about how those 6 railed against colleges even barely considering race as a factor in admissions, but they’re fine with race-conscious seizures. #law

Rally at Malcolm X Park (DC) right now.
Disgusted as I am with #scotus, still here are my previews of upcoming cases, highlighting ones I think are important and reasonably accessible to non-lawyers (as well). Some very significant cases coming on First Monday and in this first block of October cases. #law blogs.gwu.edu/zwolfe/2025/...
Trump admin’s federal troops and police are targeting Black and Brown residents, immigrants, youth, and unhoused neighbors in DC. On Sept 6, we march against the militarization of our city. #WeAreAllDC More at weareallDC.com #50501movement
Why should I write better when a machine can do it for me? Because actually no one can do it for you, because your voice is unique among all the people on earth. Siri never petted a horse's neck. Alexa has never been ghosted by the captain of the football team. But you have lived, your heart is beating, you have suffered, and you have something important to say. It's a human's job, to use words, and whatever job you give to a machine, that part of your brain goes dark. Maybe it's worth it when it comes to remembering phone numbers and directions, but when that part of your brain that uses words goes dark, that's a vast area that's very close to your soul. Don't let some internet platform convince you that what you have to say and create isn't worthwhile. Words are the echo of your soul. Honing that echo matters.

I made a collection of resources, personal observations, and notes about legal concepts I’ve seen misunderstood, thinking of my #students starting classes & coming (back) to #washingtonDC but maybe helpful to anyone here and/or working to #FreeDC. #dc #law blogs.gwu.edu/zwolfe/2025/...
Flyer for rally against federalization of DC on Sat, Aug 16 at 2pm in Dupont Circle
For everyone in #WashingtonDC and all fighting #tyranny.
#SCOTUS has released the Oct and Nov argument calendars and is doing the lottery for public seating again. Quick post about cases and entering the lottery; more to come soon. blogs.gwu.edu/zwolfe/2025/...
T also went on about no cash bail, which is so misunderstood. People found to be flight risks or threats are held w/o bail. If they are, why give them a cash bail option? If they aren’t, why hold them for lack of ability to pay? Nothing is perfectly implemented every time, but it’s the right idea.
I support what 50501 says on this thread, & add that I live in #DC without a car so walk or take public transit everywhere. This is a beautiful and safe city. DC could do better on some public safety issues, but militarization/ federalization is not the way.
Congress has given the President the power to take control of the D.C. local police for up to 30 days "for federal purposes," and to deploy the (tiny) D.C. National Guard.
As today's "One First" explains, that's the full extent of what the President can do to "federalize" D.C. without new statutes:
