Much easier and more focused. Its fun to mess around the texture settings, and just putting together relatively simple backgrounds is easy. Also you can put your guys directly in the scene as 2d figures so they cast shadows. Lighting is a bit tricky to get right but easy to tweak

I have been dabbling with this some, and its fun. Perhaps you could try this for your comics. Bryce 3d is on internet archive and you can make all of the textures procedurally in there so no messing with texture maps
