The creamy white glaze really softens it. This is beautiful.

Carefully reported consideration of the pros & cons of all the different kinds of school choice, and how it fundamentally impacts public neighborhood schools. How can we support neighborhood schools in addressing the challenges of disruptive behavior that seem to chase many families out. #education
The Anchorage School District announced Friday that it will lay off 56 teachers. That’s about two percent of the nearly 3000 teachers employed by the district.
Elementary art teachers went from alternating two weeks at each of two schools to a full semester at each of two schools. All health, art, and music teachers had to apply for newly opened positions in fine arts or classrooms. That’s what education budget cuts look like in my neck of the woods.
How did we get there?
Two teachers leaving the field of education (1 resigned, 1 retired). One teacher was on a single year contract. Health teachers as a category were eliminated. Elementary Music went from a single position at each school to a single semester at each of two schools.
One elementary school’s staffing scenario:
2025-2026 14 classroom, 1 music, 1 gym, 1 library, 0.5 health, 0.5 art teachers.
2026-2027 11 classroom, 1 gym, 1 librarian, 0.5 music, 0.5 art teachers.

I get it. I am gonna choose to believe that everyone is trying their best here. But the current dynamics between #ASDadministration, #ASDSchoolBoard and #Anchorage public is giving me whiplash and doesn’t bode well. #alaskasky #education #schoolcalendar
Hoping the child is safe and well. Waiting to learn more about this case. #alaskasky #education
It’s devastating to see the erosion of services and supports for LGBTQ+ folks. Glad to hear that some other providers are trying to step up to fill some of the gap this clinic closure will create. 🏳️🌈🏳️⚧️ #lgbtq #alaskasky #healthcare
This shouldn’t b be e new information for anyone working with education policy. But it sure doesn’t hurt to say it again. #education #aklag
A wooden cup of brown liquid sits in the foreground on a speckled brown stone countertop. In the background is a bluish carved pottery mug and a plastic bottle filled with brown liquid. The bottle has a sticker with flowers and the letters AK.

It feels icky that he’s even talking about us Alaskans. (Kinda feels like a pervy old man relative is saying he dreamed about us.) tRump knows nothing about us. Many Alaskans like the way ranked choice voting works.

#Fairbanks, you are in for a treat tomorrow! Get you some tickets to see #Gnoss. #Anchorage only got them for one night but they say they will be with you for three days! Please take them somewhere other than Target and Wendy’s. #alaskasky #Traditionalmusic #AnchorageConcerts
Ugh, this is killing me. 32 kids in fourth and fifth grade classes, on average, next year if the levy doesn’t pass. Gonna be rough on my students. #alaskasky #Anchorage #AnchorageSchoolDistrict #educationfunding #education
A greenware teacup of light colored clay sits on a metal surface. The cup has a handle of the same clay body sticking out to the left.
Got to spend some time at the studio this week. I still struggle so much with centering and throwing. Managed to make two small teacups with handles. Took me all stinking day. #wheelthrown #ceramics #greenware
