We've had administrations where the Civil Rights Division took a less watchful eye to the rights of racial minorities or diverted its energies to address other issues, but this is the first administration in history to pervert it wholly into a tool to *hurt* the people its supposed to protect.

In the same manifesto, Palantir's owners argued that we need a national military draft, that soft power is over, and that we were too hard on Germany and Japan after World War II. I don't think that company should be allowed to exist anymore.

The U.S. Said It Helped Bomb a Drug Camp. It Was a Dairy Farm.

This is utterly extraordinary.

If Hegseth et al got this wrong, think what else is happening with the drug boat strikes and much more.

Rattlesnakes are the best kind of venomous snakes, in that they will let you know in a way that's hard to miss where they are and that they're uncomfortable with how close you're getting.

By the way... did you know that in Thomas Jefferson's notes, he wrote a definition of birthright citizenship that explicitly states the English rule as it applies to foreign travelers?

He sure did.

How and when does this go to the 11th circuit? The public has an enormous interest in seeing the report and having the case proceed. #JusticeDelayedisJusticeDenied

I have watched the video recordings of the ICE officer killing an innocent woman too many times this morning.

I don’t recommend watching them. It’s obvious that this was an unjustified homicide, not self-defense.

But for the grace of G-d, she could have been any of us, just stuck in the snow.

It would take a two-word amendment to 42 U.S.C. § 1983 to subject ICE agents and other federal law enforcement officers to the same liability for constitutional violations that local and state officers currently face.

If Congress actually cared about what it's seeing, it could pass that overnight.

This is still VERY illegal. The Trump admin says anyone who pays $1 million will be deemed to have "exceptional business ability" and become eligible for an employment-based immigrant visa.

But there's nothing stopping someone from just getting a loan or using parents' money.

2) following the Unitary Executive theory gives us a president who might know some things, but is otherwise woefully ill-informed, except now the person has *ALL* the power.

What could go wrong?

The Supreme Court, Presidency, Senate and two party system are all quite anti-democratic institutions as presently constructed.

Our institutions are not only incapable of preventing tyranny—they’re currently enabling it.

When democracy returns, we need to reform our political system.

hey a fun thing is that if congress is delegating authority to an independent agency then by definition that agency is not "unaccountable." it is still accountable to congress. and it is interesting (read: extremely frustrating) to me that these people just write congress out of existence here.

Torture Techniques from CIA Black Sites Were Used at Alligator Alcatraz Amnesty International, interviewing migrant detainees, identifies use of the confinement box. There can be no denying it is a torture prison

They're using the confinement box, one of the most horrific methods of CIA torture in the post-9/11 black sites, against migrants now. This is the direct result of the lack of consequences for the architects of the torture program. Either there will be criminal penalties for this or it will expand.

Becoming a U.S. citizen takes years and involves immigrants acquiring a green card, extensive interviews, background checks, classes and a citizenship test. The naturalization ceremony is the final step to the process, where the oath of allegiance and a citizenship certificate are granted.
Immigrants approved to be naturalized went to Faneuil Hall Thursday - known as the country's cradle of liberty - for that long-awaited moment to pledge allegiance to the United States. But instead, as they lined up, some were told by U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services officials that they couldn't proceed due to their countries of origin.
