anyway, mahou arms doesn't even support lumen or dlss and i'm on a 2080 because i'm poor so it should hit 60fps on most midrange machines at 1440p

i would argue requiring DLSS to hit your fps targets pretty much defines the technology as being poorly optimized

i'm mostly talking about the popular ones reliant on vendor specific hardware, i know 'software' path tracing is a thing and obviously that will run as well as you optimize it but stuff like lumen and RE path tracing seems to run like shit

that's not it the path traced games can't even hit consistent 60 at 2k

nah it was extremely CPU bound in an era where most CPUs were dualcore at best, and CPU settings don't scale nearly as well as GPU settings do due to game threads requiring serialized logic for the most part. my athlon 64 or whatever was definitely struggling

like crysis ran like shit when it came out but after about 2-3 years or so most people could run it (as far as I can remember, it's been literal decades) on high end systems, but path tracing still runs really poorly...

you know, it's been over 6 years since path traced lighting became a thing and... it still kinda runs like shit on most games. Is anyone even talking about how this might have been a failed experiment?
