I’d say this was another example of this Labour government’s “a big boy made us do it :(“ theory of governance, but that would imply they were unhappy with this one.

And as Alex says, this is easily fixable by any government which wasn’t happy with institutionalising this bigotry across the country.

TRUMP [after spending 5 minutes with Zohran]: surplus value, it’s a very wonderful thing, very wonderful, and they’re stealing it. Can you believe that?

We’re going to be looking very strongly at the bourgeoisie, what they’re up to

Mad to do this sort of campaigning when you’re the pitch hitter for the government’s transphobia

That Stevenage-Moorgate service should be handed over to LO really, but in an ideal world it would be the second northern branch of CR2 (rather than the stub to New Southgate).

The rebranding of reactionary gender and biological essentialism as “heterodox and challenging ideas to which liberal students must be exposed” is one of the greatest achievements of our stupid era. Congratulations to the reactionary centrists who helped make it happen - you dupes, you utter dolts.

we used to build household shrines to Going On The Computer and it's no coincidence that as we abandoned these we started straying further from god's light

I think it really should be emphasised that what happened here is a tall woman approached a 14 year old to ask if she needed help, and the mother, not the girl, freaked out and is now calling for a ban on trans people being allowed to work with kids.

London is full of cults that prey on mums in the name of “wellness” offering a crock of shit that includes homeopathy, reiki for infertility, and cranial osteopathy for newborns.

They’re all dangerous idiots and called stuff like “Womb & Bloom”, “Mother Moon” and anything with “Village” in.

Sorry but personally if a miniature horse woke me up from anesthesia by banging out nonsense on a miniature keyboard it would send me into a liminal space between life and death from which I would never return

Buroughs died six months after Mario Kart 64 came out so I'm pretty confident he said this after being hit by a blue shell.

"There may be other universes based on all sorts of other principles, but ours seems to be based on war and games. All games are basically hostile. Winners and losers. The losers can oftentimes become winners, and the winners can very easily become losers." - William S Buroughs

HISTORY MATTERS. Thanks to a recent acquisition, we now have primary source evidence that Wally Bear's father really isn't wearing pants, and it isn't just an artifact of the NES' palette limitations. We could never have unearthed this without the support of generous donors just like you.

If there was a team whose job it was to go around different local authorities and organisations swapping out spinning hard drives for SSDs it would probably be the biggest productivity boost to the British state in 20 years.

Even better, I just logged into ours for the first time six months or so and it looks like our account was deleted from inactivity and needs to be recreated. Good system!

There's an online red book portal which is meant to mirror what's in the physical one, but a) it requires parents/midwives/health visitors manually updating it, so ofc it never is, and b) registering for it requires jumping through an intense amount of bureaucracy, which, again, means nobody uses it

My favourite part learning there was an "e"-red book was spending literal months being passed back and forth between midwives and health visitors, who all professed complete bafflement at both its existence and us wanting to use it, until we eventually gave up. What exactly was the plan with them??

"They’re just waiting for her to die": How austerity turns mental health patients into prisoners As mental health crises spiral, many like Lucy find themselves caught in a broken system where prison is seen as the only place of safety

Mental Health Units have a bed shortage crisis and it means more and more vulnerable people - including children - are being sent to prison “as a place of safety.”

It has the same vibe as the first Mission: Impossible, where a flat overlooking Liverpool St is described like it might as well be in Ilford or Edmonton, somewhere out of the way and cheap, which feels like an impression an American might have last got around there in, idk, the late 70s?

ancient sumerian stand up comedian: who heckles from beneath me? do you not see how high my ziggurat is? the gods look upon me!

(realizing that comedy comes from shared humility) but they look at me with disdain

And they're not even 20 yr bites any more! I'm an elder enough millennial to remember when "we" were those born 1980-2000, but of course once viral content based around pitting generations against each other took off, people got bored of waiting for what would become Gen Z and cut us off early in 96

One of those stats that shouldn't be unbelievable because this is all in living memory, and yet!

Like how in the 60s there were only a few dozen heroin addicts in the UK, and we know this because it was prescribed by GPs. Then the war on drugs came along, and, well....
