The year begins with fieldwork: at Unterlüß, Harz & Göttinger Wald we installed mercury passive samplers that will record air Hg concentrations at various forest heights over three months. Coupled with leaf, soil & water samples, we track mercury input pathways into the ecosystem.

Forests in a Warm World: Understanding the Effects of Climate Change and Taking Action - This was the topic presented by @bioclimatology.bsky.social and FoResLab at the Children's University. From experiments and examples, childrens were able to learn about climate change and its effects on forests.

Forests provide habitats and economic resources, requiring a balance between ecological and economic resilience. Researchers from UGOE develop indicators to assess economic resilience and analyse how management affects stability. Simulations will guide sustainable forest management.

Frequent droughts and climate extremes have increased transpirational stress and reduced forest cooling in Central Europe. Kanishka Mallick (LIST) uses thermal remote sensing to map water stress in Lower Saxony, aiming for a real-time, publicly available monitoring system for Germany.
