Ten years after Brexit, the UK is a divided nation frozen in time.
No economic gain, culture wars rife, minorities scapegoated.
Parties jostle over who can be more authoritarian; say little about inequalities, civil rights, public ownership, quality of life.
Architect of Brexit became richer.

Did you catch our story in ABC News? More than 100 health workers are calling on the government to ensure people seeking asylum can access healthcare as a quiet crisis unfolds.
Healthcare is a human right. It’s time our system treated it that way.

A threat to wipe out "a whole civilization" may amount to a threat of genocide.
All parties should respect international law, and those responsible for atrocities should be held accountable.

'When someone goes through the process of applying for a visa, they pay their fees. They meet all the requirements of that visa...pay for accommodation, pay for their flights.
'This sends a signal that none of that matters.'

The Albanese Labor Government has chosen to work hand-in-hand with One Nation and the Liberals to push through extreme anti-migrant and anti-refugee policies. These policies were always going to be challenged in the courts because they are so contrary to basic human rights.
The Albanese govt has passed its callous entry ban law.
“Seeking asylum is a human right. It is not determined by nationality, profile, and platform. It is universal. This law is an affront to those rights," ASC CEO and former refugee Elijah Buol says.

"Really appalling."
Our Co-CEO Paul Power spoke with SBS News about the Government's Migration Amendment Bill, which gives the Immigration Minister power to prevent people already granted visas from entering Australia if conditions change in their country of origin.

"As a refugee, I have lived in limbo for 13 years. Why are only some Iranian women worthy of Australia’s protection?"

The Albanese Government's new Migration Bill aims to place entry bans on people with valid tourist visas, who are fleeing conflict and danger in Iran and Lebanon. Call your Senator. Find them here: https://pulse.ly/0linq8yiuk
Insane that this has taken so long, and yet will pass with a whimper as the world moves on to other injustices. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...
The Australian Government's newest Migration Amendment Bill sits in sharp contrast to the welcome and safety rightly provided to some of the Iranian women’s soccer team mere hours before.

After granting protection to 5 Iranian footballers in front of the TV cameras this morning, the Government legislate to block the pathway for countless others seeking protection from the Middle East this afternoon .
Shameful.

I am in a rushed hearing into the Albanese Labor Government's travel freeze, clearly aimed at preventing people from Iran from seeking safety in Australia.

The hypocrisy is so dangerous. While signing us up for an illegal war & claiming it champions human rights of the Iranian people, the Albanese Gov is ramming thru new laws to ban people from #Iran with valid visas from entering Australia.

Disappointed I was the only MP to vote against 2nd reading of Govt-Oppn bill that will give the Minister power to stop entire classes of temp visa holders arriving in Aus. A discriminatory policy letting the Govt decide which imperilled ppl are worth saving. #auspol #politas

Call me old school but I don't think individual politicians should be able pick & choose which citizens can re-enter their own country. If someone has committed crime prosecute them on reentry but citizenship shouldn't be contingent on the wishes of individual MPs

ProPublica received eight handwritten letters from children who have been held at the detention center that 5-year-old Liam Conejo Ramos was recently released from.
We'll let their words speak for themselves.
Do they teach this at the NSW Police Academy?
Brutality 101, am I right?

This is an extremely dark moment for Australian democracy. Protest blanket banned in Australia’s most iconic city & police assaulting protesters with impunity. Aussies pride themselves on ballot box participation but voting is only one part of a democracy and in Australia the other parts are failing
Was great to be out this morning at the Asylum Seeker Centre in Newtown cleaning up their beautiful welcoming mural. Lovely community action, sharing care and time together. Sweaty solidarity!
