I do not know for fact, I have only seen theories that one was refueling the other. I live near an airbase where a number of these Stratotankers are homed. To say their capabilities are both wildly impressive and highly dangerous is a massive understatement. Their primary mission is midair refueling
There is a picture circulating the internet of it at a hanger with considerable damage to its tail.
The other KC-135 that was involved landed safely, all crew survived. Including the radio transmissions, I am certain the crew of the intact KC-135 was able to provide information on what happened. Both crews/aircraft are U.S. Air Force.

I said all of that to say that I immediately understood the context to be anti-Semitic based on my experiences with white southern Christian extremism. They are obsessed with rapture and thus obsessed with saving Israeli people’s souls because it will bring about or is a sign of the rapture.
These people are so obsessed with rapture and judgement, their children fear being left behind. My husband had moments in childhood where he woke up and his mother had left the house. He freaked out because he thought she had been raptured but he must have been left behind.
I also learned that when you’re “saved” you do not have to worry about the environment or any “worldly things and relationships” BECAUSE they are going to heaven. These people constantly talk about saving Israel, not so much about saving Jewish people. Unless you mean their souls. That’s part of it.
It is something about the end of days, about the Jewish people needed to believe in the Messiah in order to bring about the rapture. My husband is from here and grew up in this whatever it is. These people literally say goodbye with “I’ll see you Sunday, unless the rapture comes first!” With a SMILE
