I occasionally see the cheerleading, but really as a new designer in the space, how are you expected to create in a vacuum? I get that people don't want to just give wholesale design and freely work on some randos projects. It's just hard. But your advice is heeded nonetheless

Yeah, I get that part. My main problem is that I almost always see the response of "don't talk about your game if your mechanisms aren't already decided". My biggest problem is I get a core mechanism or two in place but it still feels lacking and I have no idea how to develop it more because of this
I don't really get any responses in regards to design questions here. Which sucks, because all I wanted was a community to bounce ideas off of and connect for my projects. Instead, I'm stuck in Facebook and reddit lands where everyone yells at you for basic questions. And never talk about their idea
I'm stuck in D&D simply because my group I'm running doesn't want to switch to Daggerheart. I'd much rather play Daggerheart any day. Maybe Ill find a streaming group or something and get my fill
Fuck this guy.
Actively spitting in the face of the talent that made the games for his company. I still don't know how he made it 30 years in an industry where everything he said and did was objectively the WRONG thing
I'll take a look.
I use Dextrous because it's crazy easy to export to TTS to test. I was surprised.
It's definitely early into my prototyping but I do have a pretty basic set up and was playing it this morning
I just wanna bounce some ideas off people how to develop it further. Does anyone have a group or something that does this? I'm not gonna steal someones worker placement game and sell it. I just wanna know if these boss mechanics or a card idea seems cool or is a waste of time.
So what do you all do with #boardgamedesign? So many places are so hush hush or openly hostile (reddit *cough*) about everything entry level that it's practically impossible for a solo noob to get any help with just figuring out some mechanics. I got a basic idea. I've got some playable stuff .
#miniaturepainters, where ya at?
Here is my new project. Painting my entire Marvel Zombies collection. So here's my WIP for the first mini. Why not start with Thanos?
I've been more than a little irritated with Xbox since the 360. Even after that, I ended up winning a Series X and thought maybe I'd try it again. And then was reminded very quickly why I was irritated with them.
Sold my Xbox. Never again
I realize that saying "I'm not unfamiliar" can easily read as "I'm unfamiliar" in this context lol
I'm familiar with programming. Went to university for Java programming for a few years. Even toyed with Godot (Python) for a bit but the engine didn't seem like it would aid my game project so looked at Unreal. I understand programming basics. That's no problem
What's the best route to learning #Unreal Engine development? I'm not unfamiliar with programming and I've already got a design doc. I'm just needing to learn how to bring it to life. I see some tutorials but they seem a little too basic (like basic navigation) or they are for an outdated version
Are there still people in the #TTRPG space looking to recruit voice talent for an AP Series? I'm a long time #D&D Dungeon Master and player and also really have an interest in #Daggerheart as well. Anyone want to start a conversation?
I honestly cannot believe that the entirety of the next gen will be playable exclusively on the PSVR2
I started Trophy hunting on the Playstation. I bought into the promise that they were doing something unique and have in game fun things or incorporate it into something like PS Home and then they kinda just didnt. I mostly look at the list to see if there's anything I missed for like side content
I sure can!
*turns on the Nintendo Switch*
I think Matt only wrote one campaign frame for it, and just helped with testing some content. I think Spencer Starke and Rowan Hall(?) are the ones who are mainly in charge
I don't understand why this is confusing. You just do all of the normal GM things. You just spend Fear to do it instead
Advice? If you aren't running it exactly like Delicious in Dungeon, you are doing it wrong.
IMO of course.
For people that created a Livestream, I'd love to know what your thoughts were about starting it? What was the biggest hurdle? What did you wish you knew earlier?
I'm just trying to inform myself and not let myself be immensely disappointed in the end if I put in so much effort and no one else does
I don't see streams where the talents didn't all have at least decent mics that provide clear voices. Or didn't have a dedicated play space where children are not running in the room. Obviously not everyone is a pro actor. But it's supposed to be entertainment to your audience. Not just for you.
Am I wrong for thinking that you cannot just approach a Livestream game like you would for a home game? They seem like very different things. There needs to be structure. There needs to be planning. I don't know how I could just think about turning on a camera and streaming my home game and wing it.
I'm in a fledgling Daggerheart game that says they want to be a monetized Livestream but honestly it seems like they don't really understand what it entails. It seems like they just treat it like another casual home game. I'm just looking for a bit... More? Something professional?
Each turn or action builds off of the last one and gets better over time. Does the person play video games? They can probably relate in some fashion. Stuff like strategy games or rogue likes do this same thing. Always approach conversations from their perspective and explain from their perspective.
I don't even like talking jargon with people IN the hobby. Because many mechanisms, themes and genres are hardly analogous to other games that share the mechanism, theme or genre. I'd rather use simple common terminology. 'Engine builder' is just another way of specifying that your actions compound.
Yes. I wasn't trying to imply that ONLY Daggerheart has an SRD. It was just an example. Most major RPGs have an SRD in some fashion
SRDs are your friend. You can get the Daggerheart SRD and play for free
I can paint minis. I can write content of my own for RPGs. I have started to learn video editing with Davinci Resolve for my partners video content. I have a fair amount of versatility in this area.
I am experienced in a few different RPGs as a GM and a player. I have a wide variety of board games and have some entry level experiences with design as well. I have a good mic set up. I have the ability to record video if need be. I'm looking for anyone who might need help in a fashion that relates
