The First WORLD FENCING LEAGUE is happening April 25th!!! I'M GEEKING!!!

Japanese engineers developed this "Sword Tip Visualisation" tracking technology specifically for this event that will make it so much easier for the average person to see what's going on!

I MUST WATCH THIS ENTIRE TOURNAMENT

Feeling proud of myself that instead of accepting the invitation to do a book chapter that would have taken forever and been difficult to write well, I very quickly sent a very nicely written, single-paragraph "no." With age comes more random injuries and health conditions but also wisdom!

And yet it was no better than the second craziest lyric of Ed's career. He is after all a guy who sang and recorded, "Angel, don't you have some bagels in my oven?"

You make pretty daisies love
I gotta find what you're doing about things
A few witches burning gets a little toasty
I gotta find why you always go when the wind blows
Tell me you're crazy maybe then I'll understand...
God sometimes you just don't come through
Do you need a woman to look after you?

Tech billionaires want Christians to believe in AI For Peter Thiel and JD Vance allies, the tech right is framing AI as a moral—even divine—mission.

"In Silicon Valley’s embrace of Christianity, @gregmepstein.bsky.social sees a marriage of convenience: 'They’re trying to imbue wealth with meaning,' he said. 'But they’re also trying to imbue a certain kind of meaning with wealth.'"

Hot take: it Allbirds AI is as bad as their shoes, it will not bring about an AI apocalypse but it will be apocalyptically lacking in taste and quality

I just read a real life horror story. @marisakabas.bsky.social's latest post is quite literally more dreadful than most stories you could find in the horror section of your local video store (RIP). The important new book Kabas is excerpting...wow. No words.

"They even stole God."

"I thought to myself, 'Good. They can have him.'"

I've been reading James Baldwin's last novel, Just Above My Head, because it helped inspire Begin Again, by @esglaude.bsky.social. Glaude is one of my favorite scholars in the world & this Baldwin book is a secular miracle.

Oh goody, the buzz of a large drone being flown right over Harvard Yard, nothing could possibly go wrong there. Some people really think they are entitled to do absolutely anything they want, anywhere, as long as it involves a piece of technology

I'm a yes on this one, because no one should be forced to worship someone else's religion.

Two totally random people with no internet presence both sent me extremely detailed pitches for how they could help publicize a 15-year-old book of mine, within 1 hour of each other today. AI spam is really gonna revolutionize all our lives, isn't it? As in, we'll meet a revolution to overthrow it

May not even post much on the "whole civilization will die" ...atrocity? indignity? Need a whole new category of words like this because they're so unprecedented, the least humanistic thing to happen in the world my entire career...but I'm too busy in meetings helping anxious people to cope with it

Takes a lot to truly unnerve these days but the "a whole civilization will die" line is a new plane of horrific. Even if it is just rhetoric, which I would not bet on, it feels like a sign of some last vestige being blown away. The US openly and eagerly announcing itself as monstrous

The milky way over lake superior, i believe this was about 12 different frames and there's a ton of light pollution but it kind of adds to the picture. The foreground was taken the next day and darkened , the water I digitally added the reflection to.

In honor of Michigan clinching the NCAA here's my multi year goal to capture the full milky way arch over a body of water, taken last July over Lake Superior from a state park in Michigan. 🗺️

...Your grief and shock at his physical absence is part of your tribute to what he meant to you. It's entirely appropriate to feel that stunned by it all right now and allowing yourself to feel it will actually help with the healing process later.

How are you doing on the funeral service itself, @karenattiah.bsky.social? My sense if I noted correctly was you're not the most traditionally religious though your family may be. That can be complex, happy to discuss if so. I take part in your grief in any case. And yes: your grief...

Well damn, I'm an English speaker who has watched multiple Korean reality shows, studies alternative religions in pop culture & society, and thinks Korean culture, well beyond the top hits, is Important. Good luck getting my Republican Jewish in-laws to watch during our atheist Passover vacay though

I seem to recall another very Trumpian character coming out with something like "tell me where I might find the child that I might go and worship him" - that didn't end very well either.

Federal Judge Approves Trump Effort to Obtain List of Jews From Penn

Look, I'm not the Pope of ethics or anything, but I'm pretty sure "give us a list of all your Jews so we can...protect them" is something I would have known was very, very wrong by my Bar Mitzvah
