Our nation turns its lonely eyes to you
As I noted to Dan, this story seems like a weird curiosity until you realize that it's 1964, in the heart of Phila's burgeoning Gayborhood, with Frank Rizzo as local police captain, and suddenly the reasons why a guy's apartment was surveilled for 5 days for "obscenity" become clearer, and sadder.

Saw these in a commercial and immediately thought of @murderxbryan.bsky.social
Brody has talked about how years in film swing between the US and the rest of the world dominating; I think that’s a little too neat, but this certainly feels like a transitional year with old masters existing alongside new voices who might have not gotten the chance to make a film until recently
American Films of 2024:
I Saw the TV Glow

I’m a sucker for seeing that bande dessinée sci-fi style translated to the screen
The accents in this bit are so bizarre that I now have intrusive thoughts of “unisemity”
When I was in Norway this year they already had TV ads from telecoms warning about this
ADL seems to be pumping money into anti-Palestine ads on FAST services like Pluto and Tubi??
Hey I like his playing on “I Wish It Would Rain Down” by Phil Collins
Looks like Michael Jai White’s Black Dynamite followup Outlaw Johnny Black just quietly dropped on VOD
Eric Adams pretending to get a phone call to get out of a meeting at the White House, somehow spotted minutes later in Manhattan laughing with Enes Kanter and Ja Rule at the 57th birthday party of a lesser Dick Tracy villain. They're at a "supper club" called Le Crime.
This reminded me that if you watch Rock of Love on Hulu all of the episodes aren’t censored for language or nudity
Are there any essential texts on the Bluebeard story, especially in relation to its depiction on film?
Just sick of examples of genocidal rhetoric from Israeli politicians being met with “everyone hates Likud.” How have they held power then, even if it has to be in a coalition (with further right parties)?
This seems to translate in America as journalists not knowing how to accurately talk about Israeli politicians or situate them in a larger context; I don’t think you’d ever see mainstream press call Israel a far-right country like they would with Orban and Hungary, for example.
I don’t believe in holding citizens responsible for the actions of their government, but one thing that’s really been wearing on me is people saying that “everyone” hates Likud and treating Netanyahu as an aberration.
Top 10 is finally at the point where it feels respectable
the white house thought everyone else would have the same level of contempt for palestinian lives as they do, and they're absolutely panicking because they were wrong
This new Beatles song is pretty good! youtu.be/9T7NuBTmQ7g?...
Halloweekend
Conor Lamb is probably worse than Fetterman but I’m guessing he wouldn’t have made the defining issues of his first year in office razing Gaza and wearing basketball shorts to work
I’ve been thinking about watching the TCMs I haven’t seen (everything post-The Next Generation) but they all look totally interchangeable, like pure dog food movies
