A person wade fishing in Apalachicola Bay as the sun is setting.
Got to go wade fishing with two of my favorite people, and I caught 3 kinds of fish (6 total) and kept one. Lovely way to end the day.
But are you ready for spargel season? There be whole menus!

If you could email me or DM me her contact info I would love to contact her. Easy to find email address for me…
Do you know her plans for the future? Might it include scientific illustration? Asking for a friend 😄.
We’re going too Mandy. Looking forward to seeing you.

Reminder: including alt-text on your images is helpful in many ways! It increases accessibility, can add context/detail, makes search more effective, & can improve your reach (a lot of us won’t re-share images without alt-text). If you set it as required in accessibility settings, you can’t forget!
Oh how I wish. I often look around for a book I haven’t read but never kind one.
Wow, "to the wineglass, weary of holding wine"
This reminds me of the 1998 movie After Life in which recently deceased people have to choose only one memory to keep for eternity in order to move along in their afterlife. One woman chooses the memory of standing under a cherry tree during petal fall. Not a bad choice actually.
I never applied for an NIH grant, but NSF was very good to me over the years. I am nearing the end of my career and will no longer be applying for any grants. That said, I have served and will serve on panels as a way to ‘give back’ or ‘pay it forward.’ Reciprocal altruism and all…
Everything seems expensive in New Zealand. If you can get seed off one it should be worth the effort. They germinate well and grow fast. I pull up about 20 or so every year out of my yard.
Two flowers on a redbud branch. In spite of the name, the flowers are a purplish pink color.
It’s redbud time in Bloomington IN. Millions of these will be out in force this week, giving meaning to the name of the city.

That’s a beautiful Calochortus!
lichen katydids
A recent issue of Natural History magazine has a feature on tropical katydids
Incredible creatures! Hard to decide which were the most amazing, but these lichen katydids are *next level*
Yes. Let's get together for a meal.
There is a special word for exactly this: hanami (花見).
Will you be heading to Cleveland in late June?
We’re hiring!

Greetings from another puller of garlic mustard. A couple of us have been successful (so far) at keeping it out of the understory along creeks on the Indiana University campus by weeding whenever we see one (or dozens).
I'm hiring a postdoc in population and evolutionary genetics at Indiana University Bloomington! Computational lab. Message me if interested, and can apply here: indiana.peopleadmin.com/postings/32547
2 - Gold Open Access - same publishing process as above. The difference is that when an article is accepted for publication, the author/s or funder/s pay an Article Processing Charge (APC). The final version of the published article is then free to read for everyone. The APC to publish Gold Open Access in Nature is £9390.00/$12850.00/€10850.00.
Why are we still spending tens of thousands of $$$ on APC for non-society journals like Nature?
Wouldn’t that money be better spent at society journals at least? We are doing ourselves a disservice by continuing to participate in this madness.
You don’t need a paper in these journals to succeed.
