AI's here to stay. Some changes may be in fundamental approach to the model. US AI firms should relook at their strategy to ensure they keep up and meet the needs of users.

Big slap in the face to law enforcement.
Agreed. Govs want the money and capacity of the Feds since many states just don't have them. Always room for review and reform, and also to take away assignments thrust on FEMA in the past (e.g. COVID role and dealing with immigrants) which overextended the agency.
Most states don’t have the tax base and budgets to handle large disasters. Nor do they have the capacity they can get from Federal agencies. This will disproportionately negatively impact smaller states. Reforming is one thing. Getting rid of FEMA isn’t the right solution.
Sagan was a prophet.
This is a troubling pattern and will make things harder for local and federal emergency managers. Accurate and truthful information is essential to help those impacted by disasters to make the best decisions for themselves.
There is global interest in analyzing what that led up to the devastating fires in LA and what lessons can be learned. It is driving discussions on resourcing #mitigation and #preparedness as well as improving city and rural planning efforts to address growing risks. Thx to @theguardian.com
The world's militaries are learning important lessons from the drone wars in the Ukraine-Russia conflict. Ukrainians are building thousands of small, inexpensive drones that are changing how larger countries are looking at their own programs. #drones #Ukraine #FutureWar

We are about to enter an era of extreme and dangerous culture war in the United States. How do we protect our communities and work toward a cultural ceasefire? In this piece I wrote a couple months ago, I offer one possible path. wapo.st/40q1BDn
This is a very interesting proposal and one that should be seriously considered as Japan is one of our strongest allies in Asia facing (along with their neighbors, South Korea) the challenges of a much more assertive PRC.

Another dry run of China's plan to retake Taiwan. the PRC is projecting its intentions as both a show of force and training for its forces for an actual future operation. Added to the PRC's efforts to cut Taiwan's diplomatic ties and support, it's a clear message to the region and the west. #Taiwan

A good question. One many of us have been asking. Many factors helped set up the current state: evolution of where Americans get their info, rapid decline of MSM, politicians who don't care if they are the source of disinfo. Needs more digging. Thanks to @stealthygeek.bsky.social for sharing this.
The US Gov is usually slow to move onto new social media platforms so most agencies aren't on Bluesky. To be up front, I only just moved onto it myself. I think if agencies hear from users they want to get official info on here that will help prompt many to set up accounts.
Another response from the bully in Asia. PRC trying to "punish" Taiwan again. Pay close attention, they are showing us exactly what they plan to do when they finally move to annex Taiwan as they continually state is their goal. Many thanks to @nathanattrill.bsky.social for the share.
