I was a librarian too - disabled by Covid to the point I had to quit. Still can’t work nearly 2 years later now.
I have fear because the first time I tested positive I developed disabling Long Covid. So yeah I’m afraid of becoming further disabled if I get it again which is also absolutely rational.

Thanks so much for featuring us! We really had a great time preparing this particular show as we’re all big fans of the film!
Today is #silentmovieday, so feel free to check out this episode I did years ago with my friend @sonic-cinema.bsky.social, where we talk about the birth of cinema, silent movies, and we close with our Top 5!

Yes, exactly this. It’s funny how Melville’s descriptions of the whales make them so majestic and relatable and full of personality even as it’s a book about whaling. I ended up reading scientific books on whales as supplementary reading.
I just read Moby Dick for the first time this year so I’m absolutely interested!
youtu.be/HMGD1KCYFOw?... Colbert’s response to Kimmel’s cancellation is amazing and gave me one of the only laughs I’ve had today!
None of this should mean you shouldn't take them seriously as a threat to our existence and way of life. But they aren't the overwhelming dark empire that has a chokehold on ever aspect of life they want you to think they are. They're a bunch of power mad idiots hoping the ride never stops.
Their gestapo gets run out of neighborhoods by angry citizens with cameras, they lose battles in court constantly, states have already taken steps to protect their citizens' rights. And they only get less popular. with more people aware and upset at them by the day.
It's easy to give into panic and there IS a ton of things to be afraid of right now and in the future
But what I am holding onto is that the truth of the matter is that the current regime is incredibly unpopular and relying on projecting the image of overwhelming power because they don't have it
If people don’t give up I still have some hope. We outnumber the people who like this administration. And even those who like it, most of them aren’t willing to do the dirty in person work it would take for a full authoritarian state. That’s why they’re controlling the greedy spineless execs instead
This. We can’t let this stand. If we do, it continues.
Every major talent that works for ABC and Disney should refuse to show up for work until Jimmy Kimmel is reinstated.
Marvel movies need to shutdown. Ditto the sitcoms.
Collective boycott.
Corporations love money more than anything,& this will harm them and force them to do the right thing.
if Jimmy Kimmel's political humor is too hot for you to handle, I'm not sure "snowflake" even cuts it as a term of derision for the level of fragility you've achieved
This one hurts. He was a good person as well as a good actor, one of my mom’s favorites, and I may have nursed a tiny crush on him too. What a life and body of work, though!
Battle doomscrolling by posting 5 small pleasures in life:
- good croissants and coffee

- singing along to 80s pop songs
- headbutts from cats
- podcasting about movies!

I actually have seen Blood on Satan‘s Claw - I liked it enough that I left it on my tubi list to rewatch! I’ll see if I can find the others! Thanks!
Any particularly good folk horror you’ve seen lately? I do sort of have a list from that giant folk horror documentary that came out a few years ago but I also like personal recommendations!
Thank you @getmeanotherpod.bsky.social for making it worth my while to watch “Short Night of the Glass Dolls.” I was laughing so hard listening to your commentary. The weird tie, “normcore giallo”, the text vs the subtext, @weirdegg.bsky.social being driven slowly mad. Fantastic stuff.
Can’t wait to hear your selections!
Recorded TOP 5 BOOK TO FILM ADAPTATIONS tonight with @onetrackmind.bsky.social - episode coming this Monday.
What would be on your list?
The Age of Innocence, The Last of the Mohicans, A Room with a View, Fight Club, Sense and Sensibility (3/5 with Daniel Day-Lewis and every one from the 90s!) Very honorable mention to Bram Stoker’s Dracula!
A+ on that needle drop at the end, guys. Also, am I going to have to finally watch Sharknado? 🤔
Extremely in-depth! This became our longest episode ever but I’m not complaining! Always great to talk movies with Billy Ray!
