The Game Narrative Kaleidoscope

If you work in games and want food for thought, there's no food tastier or more nutritious than the Kaleidoscope podcast right now.

Every episode has been an absolute banger so far, brilliant thoughtful discussions with great guests. Kudos @jon.inkle.co and @sagarberoshi.bsky.social !

My method is to go back to a piece of the work that I “finished” and re-read it. I’ll always find something to correct, contract, or expand upon. And within 30 minutes I’ll be in a better place to attempt something new.

I never wait to write, because I feel the words are waiting for me.

Good morning.

Thanks for the shout out! If you get the opportunity, read the short essay I wrote for the book. It’s far more succinct and articulate than my ramblings here. And the other essays are great too.

The Big Idea: Darby McDevitt The intentions behind one’s actions speaks louder than words ever could. Author Darby McDevitt leads us on a journey through the exploration of intention, desires, and consequences in the Big…

I wrote a Big Idea post on John Scalzi's blog to celebrate the release of my novel.

It's about perverse incentives, blowback, and desire paths. And it's short, so it won't take you long to read.

The best thing about Crusader Kings 3 is that having no idea how to play it is a perfect simulation of being an incompetent ruler.

No. Taking the pardon would feel rather against the Assassin ethos, even if it was a ruse. And it would make players think she agreed with Hornigold’s view of things.

The Halter by Darby McDevitt — Open Letters Review A cyber-noir novel that's satisfying, snarky, and simmering with insight.

A lovely little review of The Halter that popped up last night.

PSA: a lot of people asked for an ebook edition — and we’ve been able to put one together! And with hyperlinks, of course.

I will say more when Ubisoft says more. But I will admit: I'm happy that people are excited. I am too!

If I had known this video was going to be public, I would have dragged my bookshelf behind me for more writer cred. I have dozens of them, I promise.

To the 50-ish people who showed up at my book launch last night, thank you! I had a great time, good conversations, and excellent drinks.

A special shout-out to Joie De Livres for hosting it. A bookstore with class, verve, and swagger. 😘
