Justice Dept. abandons defense of orders targeting law firms President Donald Trump’s executive orders imposing sanctions on several law firms had been struck down by judges. His administration is abandoning its appeals.

Big congrats to @WilmerHale @JennerBlockLLP @SusmanGodfrey @PerkinsCoieLLP for standing up to the bullies!! Shame on the others who caved - putting paychecks ahead of democracy.

Opinion | The Aftermath of Feeding America’s Credibility Into the Woodchipper

An important summary by my former colleague @jeremykonyndyk.bsky.social of how Donald Trump, Elon Musk and their henchmen have ruined lives all over the world and put America on the road to being friendless (inc getting booed at the Olympics).

After decades of quiet, this Alaska volcano could be ready to blow Scientists warn that the Alaska volcano Mount Spurr is likely to erupt soon, showering ash on Anchorage and potentially disrupting air travel.

Yet another example of the stupid actions being taken by @elonmusk and @POTUS .... They are cancelling the lease of the USGS office in #Anchorage where experts monitor potential volcanic eruptions that could threaten the city and Pacific flight routes

All because “the uncertainty that President Trump generates kills any possible consideration of US suppliers” as part of these Canadian and international projects.

Trump started the current tariff threats, that re-consideration of the US Steel supplier went out the window, again. And this time permanently. The steel that would have normally been purchased over the next 10 years from the US Steel maker has resurrected and sustained a Canadian supplier.

used US supply chains as a normal course of business. More recently, the infrastructure clients were starting to get comfortable with once again buying the steel from the US supplier; the clients wanted to have more than the one steel supplier for risk management purposes. However, as soon as Pres.

for millions of tonnes was cancelled. The US steel maker had to lay off 10 American workers as a result. That may be a relatively “small” number of unemployed US workers – but not to those 10 families. And multiply this scenario by thousands of similar situations where Canadian manufacturers

They asked for the steel to be sourced in Canada. Several Canadian steel makers were approached and one of them agreed to re-start production; this Canadian steel maker had been dormant and was looking for a large “anchor” order to re-start production. The order with the US supplier

When President Trump won his first term he immediately started making noise about tariffs and ripping up the NAFTA agreement. The infrastructure clients got spooked and said the uncertainty created by President Trump’s threats created too much project risk.

The company does not export any of these infrastructure products to the US. But for 30+ years this company bought the steel for these projects from a US Steel maker because the US supplier was\is an excellent company and the steel itself was so specialized: it wasn’t produced anywhere in Canada.

Here is a story from a good friend which illustrates how Donald Trump is going to be bad for business. My friend owns a steel fabrication business in Ontario, Canada. They are part of a specialized supply chain for large infra-structure projects in Canada, Europe, Asia and South America.

Must watch: GOP Senator Roger Marshall stands up and flees his own town hall meeting today after being asked why Republicans think it’s acceptable for DOGE to be firing Veterans.

This is a very rural, very conservative town.

To summarize:

-They stopped almost all USAID work

-Then they conceded that some programs actually saved lives & granted waivers for those

-Then they promised a “careful” 90 day review of everything

-Then they cancelled 90% anyway within just weeks, including many they had just deemed life-saving

NEW: When the Trump Admin abruptly cancelled almost all USAID programs, it also refused to pay $2bln the U.S. govt owes **for work that’s been done.**

One of the cut-off programs in Syria couldn’t afford security and was robbed by masked men.

I showed up at USAID today where the Trump admin forced staff to vacate all belongings from the building in 15 min. Thanks to all who showed up in solidarity on this tough day. This is where I got my start two decades ago, and I won’t stop fighting for our public servants.

Thanks to the thousands of employees who worked so tirelessly to try to solve some of the hardest challenges the planet and our country face. Starting with the Marshall Plan onward till today you helped give America a great reputation in a lot of places

If "the United States would also commit to supporting Ukraine’s future economic development," then the Trump Administration will need #USAID @usaidstopwork.bsky.social and the #USDFC to do that! But of course #elonmusk hasn't done his homework to know that

Very pleased to discuss the blitzkrieg attack on the entire international development ecosystem of the United States yesterday at the Center for Development Economics at Williams College. Did you know that 94% of all #USAID spending in the last six years was audited and only 0.3% had issues?

DOGE Claimed It Saved $8 Billion in One Contract. It Was Actually $8 Million. The biggest single line item on the website of Elon Musk’s cost-cutting team appears to include an error.
