'So much for the tolerant left'
Elaine: He said you should see your own show?
Jerry: He said I should see my own show!
E: So what did you tell him?
J: What could I tell him? If I wasn't me it would have been good advice!
George: What's going on?
E: Jerry's doctor told him to see his own show
G: Your doctor has a show?
I support this! My partner has called regular toothbrushes and regular dish soap “acoustic” for ages
Sometimes, if something gets extremely popular in the mainstream, the cultural impact means we *do* have to divide the world into before and after. I think those wizard school books deffo fall in that category, as do Game of Thrones and Hunger Games.
Fun! I get that you don't just want «thing I love», but thing we loved is often what defined (or reinvented) the genre *for us*, so it's sometimes hard to distinguish.
That said: Monty Python did maybe not reinvent British comedy, but I think they did something new with television as a medium.
I scrolled down to see if anyone had said this
I showed this to my partner and don’t think he’s ever shouted “SOLD!” more quickly 😂
Who but a 84 year old would be *sitting down* while doing a rock concert?
Happy happy birthday!
Yes! And the background isn’t bad either (although believe me, one does tire of that stuff …)
One can only imagine how cold it would have been otherwise.
Agreed! I wrote a long post fifteen years ago about how we who are not religious create the magic of Christmas and/or the magic of becoming human beings, especially when we have (or see) young children who are growing up close to us. That whole passage was a central part of it.
Sir Terry Pratchett is best understood as one of the most interesting, deeply ethical practical (I would say Pragmatist but I cede to actual experts) philosophers of the late 20th Century who just happened to work in deconstructed fantasy literature as his medium.
I love both magpies and news, so that sounds great! Merry Christmas right back at you all over at that shadowy door 💚🎄
We are obviously living in the ENTIRELY wrong timeline!
That is insane!
I see the “technically it’s ephebophelia” crowd is out today, so just a reminder that A) this is NOT a case where technically correct is the best kind of correct and B) the minute you say this, the gods dump you in the “irredeemable creeper” basket and wash their hands thoroughly after touching you.
Couldn’t relate
Are you fighting *all* the way, or taking some breaks along the way?
Poking your head into something for the first time post-kids is always a bit strange (often great as well, obvs). The world is still there, even when your outlook might have changed. Was great saying hi to you after lots of water under lots of bridges! 👋
And @alexanderjnewall.bsky.social looked so dapper!
No spoilers! But I’m glad I got to see @jonnysims.bsky.social do both this and the Death of the Mechanisms show live. Kudos, sir!
Congrats to @jonnysims.bsky.social and @alexanderjnewall.bsky.social and everyone else at @rustyquill.com for the #MagnusLive show. Had a blast last night!
What a long and strange trip it’s been. Now just for someone to tell Alex he couldn’t *possibly* produce a Magnus musical!
Have you ever had an earworm stuck in your head?
