Representatives from County Clerks’ Offices from across New Mexico gathered this week for the Secretary of State’s 2026 Primary Election School. State law requires these schools of instruction take place before each statewide election - and there was plenty to discuss!
To be clear - unless deemed necessary to repel armed enemies of the United States, federal & state laws prohibit the stationing of troops or armed persons in the civil, military or naval service of the United States at any polling place.

On Friday, New Mexico joined 20 other states in filing a lawsuit seeking to block President Trump's most recent executive order on election administration. The U.S. Constitution is clear. States administer elections.
