so i beg you all, learn to make the distinction! learn to disconnect independence from adulthood! you don’t have to be independent to be an adult, but you do have to have emotional intelligence and critical thinking skills
and the idea that being an adult inherently requires independence is not only extremely exclusive of disabled people, but also doesn’t take into account how messed up the economy and job market are now - even people who are able-bodied are struggling to get hired, raise a family or own property now
being an adult is NOT about having a job, having a car, owning a house, sustaining a family, having children, or being married. that is called “independence”.
being an adult is about being able to resolve conflict peacefully, it’s about having healthy disagreements, it’s about being able to judge when to stand up for yourself and when to listen to others, it’s about understanding nuance in things that as a teenager you believed were black and white.
i think the big reason people who are young adults dont feel like “real adults” is because of the misconception that adulthood = independence, when it’s really not.
hence why they spend so much time in it, hence why they can’t (not don’t want to, CAN’T) get an idea of what the real world is like, hence why they have nothing in their life reality-checking them that twitter discourse isn’t something to worry about
everyone needs human connection whether they admit it or not, and sometimes, people’s only source of that in their life is the internet
literally what are you supposed to do if not get deeply involved in niche internet communities that care too much about flag discourse?
if youre a bullied outcast at school with no friends, your home life sucks, there are no places to have fun in your city without needing money, going anywhere meaningful in your car-centric city requires transport that you dont have, and there is no mental health treatment in your area,
i dont think people become chronically online because of a flaw in their character. i believe the primary reason is because it’s the only place left for them to go
artfight.net/~cobaltdevils
and majority of the world population doesn’t use the internet enough to know what an anime is. you people severely overestimate how chronically online the average human being is
“literally everyone has played undertale” im sorry but have you ever gone outside, talked to a real flesh person? you’d find that most people in real life have no clue what a videogame is, especially in third world countries
pet peeve of mine is when people on the internet assume their specific circle in their specific language of the internet is the entire world
if you give your oc a million small details that dont add anything to the design other than making them a nightmare to draw, youre not allowed to complain about people not wanting to draw them
