That's close to 100 5-year NIH grants. So much for technical leadership.

Screenshotted excerpt from linked article reading as follows:

"In public, Chief Justice John G. Roberts Jr. has cultivated a reputation for care and caution. The papers reveal a different side of him. At a critical moment for the country and the court, the papers show, he acted as a bulldozer in pushing to stop Mr. Obama’s plan to address the global climate crisis.

When colleagues warned the chief justice that he was proposing an unprecedented move, he was dismissive. “I recognize that the posture of this stay request is not typical,” he wrote. But he argued that the Obama plan, which aimed to regulate coal-fired plants, was “the most expensive regulation ever imposed on the power sector,” and too big, costly and consequential for the court not to act immediately."

Rep. Chu brings up the fact that FEMA is approving disaster requests from Republican states but not Democratic states.

She asks Vought about it, and he basically says it's not a problem. "No one has looked harder at FEMA funding than us."

McInnis adopted a policy of institutional neutrality in October 2024, following recommendations from the Committee on Institutional Voice, which advises Yale leaders to limit public statements on political matters except in rare cases. Ahead of U.S. Education Secretary Linda McMahon’s scheduled appearance at a Buckley Institute event this month, University President Maurie McInnis commended the independent Yale-adjacent organization for inviting her.

McMahon is slated to speak about diversity, gender and the government’s education policies at an April 16 event hosted by the Buckley Institute, a group that brings conservative voices to campus. The secretary, a member of President Donald Trump’s cabinet, oversees a Department of Education that has canceled billions of dollars worth of federal funding grants to universities across the country.

“Buckley does an amazing job, as do many of our other student groups, of inviting leaders to come speak on consequential topics,” McInnis said in an interview on Tuesday. “I applaud that they have invited her.”

When asked if she believed the Education Department should be scrapped, she stopped short of clearly answering affirmatively or negatively.

“I don’t believe — I — the U.S. Department of Education serves many wide and diverse functions, many of which serve our students very well,” she said, mentioning Pell Grants as an example. “I certainly think that those functions are absolutely vital and need to continue,” she added, emphasizing the word “functions.”

My alma mater @yale.edu is so embarrassing. In 2024 it adopted "institutional neutrality" to not comment on political matters; that didn't stop the President from praising a right-wing group for inviting McMahon to campus, but did stop her from saying if Dept of Edu should be illegally destroyed. 🙄

The fact that nobody seriously believes there is an institution in this country that will check the president—that we’re all just sitting here hoping that he gets distracted and fails to follow through on his genocidal threats—is the most damning indictment of our political system I’ve seen yet.

Hearing from #NIH sources the peer review office (CSR) is being broken.

"They [top of CSR] want ppl with zero expertise in the review area to run review. I heard they don't want people to be "distracted by the science." (??)
It's crazy to think a person can run good review for any kind of science."
