I don't expect to change his mind or even influence how he looks at things really, I'm not that polyannish- if you're involved in an ideological campaign, arming yourself with information is the first move to be made.
I'm not just trying to get a sense of what we're up against, but where the animosity comes from. Without that piece, it's impossible to deradicalize people who might otherwise be decent people, or at least not do active harm.
