Britain has long understood this, and our Military Oath is precise about our 'obedience to The King' and the inclusion of the comma therein is to specify just whom it is that makes or ratifies "The Law" to whit - we must obey.

Upon this single comma the US Military system is deliberately skewed towards obedience to a single man.

That comma is vital, and its inclusion after 'me' promotes the President to a King.
