They're actually going feral. Hope it's not proving too annoying to deal with

Maybe also that because Labour's been in opposition more, they have more leadership elections that straddle the summer and so have to be extended for that reason i.e. 2010 and 2015? Even 2019/2020 was delayed by the Christmas holidays.

Doesn't get better than this

You were the one who brought up his previous stint as leader

It was reading all the “Keir is gonna be big mad today about Mandelson” briefings this morning that it hit me: he thinks he's the victim of this scandal. He's angry because he thinks he's been personally wronged.

And the only way he can possibly believe that is if he's incredibly self-absorbed

It did in 2015

Labour would bite off your arm to be on 232 seats and 30% of the vote at the next election

Huh. All the mean words I've called Starmer over the past year I don't think I've used the word narcissistic but you're absolutely right. He's clearly mad mostly for how this scandal has made him look bad.

What's crazy the more we discover about the situation the more they could probably have fronted this out for longer by just saying Robbins is responsible, he put in place the appopriate mitigations, and Starmer's previous statements were about the Cabinet Office process he was actually involved in.

Which to be fair was clear with the last budget. I get the reluctance to get rid of him but like you say its inventing a Starmer to grudgingly tolerate.

The man is fighting for his personal reputation and presumbaly eligibility for potentially hundreds of thousands of pounds. Of course he's going to go in two-footed. Just classic Starmer to not see two-steps ahead.

When you explains what's necessary and someone goes "but that would be really unpopular" I feel like building a diorama of a recent opinion poll so I can beat them over the head with it!

I just think if the government was to become this unpopular this quickly, they might as well have done it by increasing taxes on median+ earners.

Agreed. But like I say, dumb/unwise is not the same as biased.

New ideas start somewhere

7 hours ago 0 0 0 0

Oh I absolutely. The whole idea is to be honest. But it's not the BBC wants to help Reform, its the people desperately wants people to watch the news

7 hours ago 2 0 0 0

I think people are overreacting to this even if I agree its unwise. Presumably the BBC wants to make its graphics more eye-catching and so will use each party's branding when flashing up summaries of their policies. It's dumb not biased

Well for starters 1, 2, 4 & 5 have in no way happened. Several others are highly debatable too. Again things are really bad, but exaggerating isn't helpful

I think if the leader was smart they would go for a relatively junior minister who they think is good, rather than just pick one of the senior ministers who have already failed in less important/easier roles.

There is no benefit at all to Labour keeping Starmer now. The PLP could replace him with a bag of chips tomorrow and the party would be more appealing to the electorate. Dump him, try again, and put us all out of this misery.

What i find strange is how he's not been captured by the civil service. You'd think given his disinterest in politics and dislike of politicians he would drift towards apolitical bureaucrats when in government. Even more so given his professional background.

The Mandelson fiasco reveals the true nature of Starmerism This is a prime minister who does not understand the difficult trade-offs involved in governing

Keir Starmer famously said there was "no such thing" as Starmerism. He was half-right: there is no such ideology. There is however an approach to managing and running the country that is core to so many of the government's difficulties that we probably should call 'Starmerism'. In tomorrow's paper:

The clever clever plan to get Diane Abbot out really should have told us what was about to happen once they got power.

It is an indictment of the level of attention paid to devolution in Westminster that nobody is noticing the rebirth of a party that junked a clearly incapable leader and replaced him with a former leader not previously regarded as a success and drawing conclusions.

And as @mconcagh.bsky.social points one of the films is literally a porno. Everyone gets why porn theatres stopped being a thing with the rise of video and then the Internet. It's the same process of technological change

I honestly think it would make some difference even now
