Calling it a day early. A few flowers around the neighborhood here at the beach today. Bougainvillea, hibiscus, bird of paradise, and wild banana. 🌿

52/52 Wrens are one of my favorite birds. It was a delight to write an entire book about a very plucky & courageous one. I suppose it is a spoiler to post this final drawing which shows Wren being welcomed home, but don't we need some happy endings?

The Emperor Angelfish change color dramatically as they mature, can switch sex from female to male and live up to 20 years. They form small harems on Indo-Pacific reefs, and can eat toxic sea sponges that would harm most other animals.

A worm's-eye view straight up the trunk of a coastal redwood, its deeply furrowed, fibrous bark filling the frame as the tree tapers to a distant crown of feathery green branches fanned against a pale overcast sky. Surrounding redwoods close in at the edges, their canopies forming a broken ring overhead, with soft golden light filtering through the upper foliage, suggesting a forest that has been doing this for a very long time.

Redwood country. There's a version of humility that only comes from standing at the base of something like this.
