1/10 We are thrilled to share our preprint on spatial transcriptomics in wheat spikes led by the amazing @katielong.bsky.social and Ashleigh Lister. We resolved expression of 200 genes to cellular resolution. Pre-print👉 tinyurl.com/c7t3kncf., @johninnescentre.bsky.social @earlhaminst.bsky.social

The first of at least 2 (maybe 3!) livestreams I plan to host this week will be Mon, Jan 6, @ 3pm PT. Main topic: Major offshore wind/fire weather event in SoCal this week, plus thoughts about CA tornadoes and "American fog conspiracies." #CAwx #CAfire www.youtube.com/watc...
Over the last 18 years, I have lived in California, Idaho, Alaska, Indiana, Oregon, Colorado, South Dakota, Arizona, and Nevada. Each of those moves advanced my education and career in public service.

Folks: please be diligent about not disseminating Ann Telnaes' cartoon in a way that she's not getting the clicks on it (until she says differently). Her IP matters now more than ever.
Make it go viral but make sure she benefits.

We possess the technology to create products that nearly never break. We were doing it in the 70's & 80's.
Then came 'planned obsolescence' - intentionally designing products to become obsolete or break quickly within a set time frame.
This is that- but in reverse.
Apropos of recent, ah, speculation...a few thoughts about #fog.
Fog is, simply, a shallow cloud that extends all the way to the ground. It's usually composed of condensed water droplets--though "ice fog," composed of ice crystals, can occur if it's cold enough. [Thread: 1/10]
Incredible, 108-foot tall wave at Mavericks, fetch from that North Pacific bombcycle last week. Possibly the largest wave ever surfed. #Mavericks #BombCycloneWaveStorm www.sfgate.com/sports/artic...

Something to remember
Red tailked hawk perced on an antennae of some kind. The antennae looks a tiny tiny bit like the symbol Prince used for his name. The antennae has a thick pole in the middle and on one side of the pole is a thin wore loop about as big as the red tailed hawk. On the other side is a straight skinny pole sticking out horizontally with some small vertical poles on it spaces a few inches apart. The red tail is perched on the horizontal pole.
The Prince Hawk, formerly known as a red tailed hawk, in Davis, CA just now

Wanted: examples (via DM is fine) of people/groups w/ a good record in treating CRPS (complex regional pain syndrome). ideally in Northern California.
Also interested in hearing from people who know about effective treatments for CRPS.
Someone very close to me has it and it is horrific.
Picture of an American Kstrel holding something in its talons while perched on a large rectangular wooden sign that reads "HUNTER CHECK STATION" in large yellow letters. The sign also has a yellow arrow pointing up. There is blue sky behind the sign and kestrel at the top of the picture and brown platns / grasses behind the sign in the lower part of the picture. The sigs woos is mostly dark brown with some lighter regions. The sign is held up by two large wooden posts at each end.
Well, this was a bit surprising. First, I have been going to Yolo Bypass near Davis, CA very very often and always dream of getting a good raptor pic with the "Hunter Check Station" sign. And I got one today of a kestrel sitting on that sign. Yes, this is a hunter check station.
Map from ClimateToolbox.org depicting season to date precipitation anomaly ranks across California. Northern California is much wetter than the long-term average (locally near record-wet), and Southern California is much drier than average (locally record-dry).
As the new year approaches, the already remarkable season-to-date "precipitation dipole" in California has further intensified. Much of SoCal has still not received meaningful rain this season, while NorCal continues to get soaked on a recurring basis. #CAwx #CAwater #CAfire
Agreed! The article includes excellent visualizations. It's the Snow Fall for sea level rise.
Unfortunately, states in the southeast are some of the least prepared to address the immense challenge of sea level rise.
