Fallion is an Arch. Archs are a technologically-inclined alien race. Kraus was a 'human' at one point but was bippity-bopped into an Arch courtesy of Iridius, an ascended (god-like) Arch, for a myriad of reasons. Kraus used to be a 'Pit Master', and oversaw an underground catacomb turned fighting pit, bloodsports, usually pitting Archs against -insert anything here but mostly specially bred boar.- Eindroh (Ee-en-dro), Fallion's father, was one of the pit's most valuable fighters, and had been for centuries, forced to fight for Kraus' family line. His father, Wyatt, was most brutal. Fallion eventually finds out the truth of Eindroh's absence (assumed dead), and what fighting pits are at ground level. Lots of things happen and in this case I went in a direction that had Fallion get his hands on Arch!Kraus before a gunshot wound in the gut kills him off and uses him as a guide to locate other fighting pits in order to destroy them. Kraus was seen as one of the most formidable Pit Masters, and known to brute force his way if he saw it fitting to his intentions. He's also very difficult to read, mathematically inclined (he is all paper and pen with his numbers as well), business orientated, honest, and he can snuff out a lie with ease. Liam, his right hand, is also very much involved in his own ways.
