The amazing mail sent to a video game publisher An old Activision idea from the 1980s has led to some incredible things in the 2020s for Panic, the publisher of Despelote, Arco and Time Flies: “The range of things we received was wild."

Secret URLs. Special webpages. People learning how to send letters again. And way more mail than we ever expected.

A goofy idea that turned into one of the most fulfilling things we've ever done: www.gamefile.news/p/panic-mail...

I agree. But sometimes convincing folks to do the thing that is hard for them, instead of reaching for the tech that makes it easy, is like selling hand crafted goods over cheap mass production.

The thing that scares me is when I hear senior devs talk about collaboration with other humans becoming less important.

Been thinking about this a lot recently. I’m realizing this is less about the changing of juniors and more about the subconscious realization that a senior developer (and the career ladder to get there) is going to look very different within the next few years.

@bettyjunod.bsky.social I feel like this is either a project of a overgraduate in psychology or the partial script of Jerry Maguire 2: Too many agents, again.

They’re continuing to use this word and I refuse to correct them… instead I am going to support them and popularize the use of overgraduates.

Younger kiddo had a field trip today to Cal; best line of the day was:

Kid: “We met with a bunch of students and what you told me was wrong, they said all their classes are taught by professors not overgraduates.”

Me: “Overgraduates”

Kid: “Yeah, the older students, not the undergraduates.”

Turns out, you CAN do positive things with government in today’s world.

For our kiddos this worked around 4. The key was to not have the decision be emotional (for the parent). If the kid felt they made us angry, the behavior did not change (often reinforced the bad behavior). But if it was a non-emotional response of, “ok, time to go.” The lesson was learned.

Same same.

This is a good thread. I used to tell people that we need more nuance in these discussions. But honestly I don't ever expect that to happen. It's not that people don't understand nuance. It's that they don't wanna be responsible for figuring it out.

One thing I'm seeing proposed more and more as a prophylaxis against another Trump is to ban felons from holding public office.

And this might be an unpopular opinion, but I *hate* that plan.

Here's why.

AI-powered mainframe exits are a bubble set to pop: Gartner : Analysts reckon 70 percent of projects will fail, and 75 percent of vendors in the field will go away

Turns out, AI may not solve all the problems… shocking.

The hungry red panda at the Prospect Park Zoo? Adorable.

The HungryPanda delivery app scamming small businesses? Not adorable. So they will be paying $580,000 back.

We'll keep pursuing companies that take advantage of New Yorkers, and we'll keep asking if we can pet a red panda just for a second.

Honestly, this could be the primary reason the US loses its ranking as a superpower. The economic impact of other nations no longer concerned about energy is going to radically alter the political power structure.

Energy abundance is coming. Thank fuck because fossil fuel geopolitics is the absolute worst. Well played China.
