There is no pointless way to cosplay. Many of us cosplay for the love of it. Expression doesn’t require metrics to be meaningful.

Social media works to alter our perceptions of what cosplay CAN be. Social media is a great fit for content creators, so you might see more of them. That does not mean that creating content is the ONLY way to cosplay.

Cosplay is cosplay contests, cosplay is hanging out at the mall in cosplay, cosplay is content creation, cosplay is embodying a character quietly in the woods, cosplay is making something because you want to, cosplay is not making something because you don’t want to.

Cosplay is whatever you want it to be. Life’s too damn short ya’ll

It’s not the money that makes influencers behave this way, it’s the Skinner box dynamics of these tech monopolies that we have allowed to replace all print media.

You can say that money would corrupt the scene, but I say that the money would buy time and a higher level of competition.

I wish that there was something like a print magazine you could subscribe to that followed the competitive cosplay scene instead of this.

I get the feeling that the predatory nature of content creation comes from the very nature of social media platforms. People are trying to make a living off them even though they are run by these opaque algorithms that Facebook et al could change on a whim. It’s like three card monte for assholes
