Glorious display on the Judas #Tree in the grounds of St. Pancras School - and another beauty that we saw on our walk back from Landport Bottom in #Lewes yesterday.
An exciting message from Patrick Austin, Environmental Performance Officer for South-East Water! This morning they recorded at least 15 #Swifts foraging high over the water and accompanied by several Sand Martins. Close to #Lewes!

Over a thousand #Swifts recorded passing above France on 17/18 April - and some of them are as close to #Lewes as Normandy! Swift callers on!
We often admire this #tree next to #Lewes River Lodge Surgery - Acer saccharinum, (Sugar Maple or Silver Maple).

At Malling Deanery Arboretum, these catkins on the Betula maximowicziana, (Maximowicz's Birch), were up to 15 cm long. The peeling bark looked good too.

We were invited on a walk around Firle Village this morning to help them to find good sites for artificial House Martin cups. It was very interesting and we found several natural House Martin cups - and we saw two Swallows!
Fluffy female flowers amongst the new pink-brown leaves on the Copper Beech outside South Malling Church, #Lewes - a very impressive #tree with a lovely shape!
At South Downs Road, #Lewes, this morning to weed and mulch the five #trees that we planted there in 2015/2016 - Acer platanoides, (Norway Maple), Prunus avium, (Cherry), Ulmus Americana, (Princeton Elm), Alnus incana, (Grey Alder), and Sorbus intermedia, (Swedish Whitebeam).
Very early "handkerchiefs" on the Davidia involucrata, Handkerchief Tree, at Malling Deanery Arboretum today. The white bracts surround the purple-red flower head. I wonder what we will see on the guided walks during Lewes Tree Festival?
Records of sightings of #Swifts reported in Dorset, Cornwall, Rainwall Marshes, and Walthamstow wetlands on 7th April! #Lewes soon?!
The Trektellen app shows some #Swifts passing through the Medoc region, just above Bordeaux, and rather a lot above Corsica. The first Swift was seen in #Lewes on 14th April last year - not long to wait before we are scanning the skies.

All of a sudden there are leaves and flower buds on our Hawthorn #tree! A few days ago there was only a glimmer of green. This morning, a female Sparrowhawk was sitting in the tree. Later, a Blackbird sat among the branches before flying down to our pond for a good bath. #Lewes
