I am sad to leave UCSC, a dream school with amazing faculty and a stunning location rivaled only by Stanford and Berkeley. Grateful for the tremendous support, and I will continue collaborating with my colleagues here.

This was a tough decision, but UCSB means a lot to me. In 2015, I came to the US for the first time and spent 5 unforgettable years in SB—research, marriage, and childbirth. It will be exactly 10 years when I return!

For PhD applicants: come study at a world-class department in a dream location:

Yeah, same! Conferences are more and more like places for networking than learning new knowledge... workshops are still great for new stuffs though

The evolution of academic posts on social media:
- Papers: First posted when accepted → then when arXiv-ed → now before arXiv submission.
- Jobs: First posted when starting a new job → then when accepting an offer → now when starting the job hunt.

Life update: Excited to announce that I’ll be joining UCSB CS (@ucsb-cs.bsky.social) as an Assistant Professor in Fall 2025—where my research dream began!

If you’re interested in PhD research (3+ openings) on multimodal, GenAI, or agents (embodied/digital), apply to UCSB CS by Dec 15!

For my ICLR submissions, it is either one paper with follow-up comments from multiple reviewers, or no comments from any reviewers, quite mixed feeling.

Sometimes, there is indeed a balance between fancy ideas and what really works. As researchers, we must avoid optimizing solely for paper acceptance or incremental performance gains—true progress lies in meaningful contributions that matter.
