These laws are unconstitutional and they deserve to be chucked out.

Listen to Executive Officer, Bart Shteinman on PM overnight discussing why the anti-protest laws in QLD and NSW are anti-democratic and it's a good thing they've been struck down in NSW!

For some reason, transgender medicine and surgeries are the ONLY medical interventions for which the public demands a perfect 0% regret rate.

Look up the regret rate for heart surgery some time.

It's A LOT higher than that for any gender affirming treatment.

American right-wing Catholics aren't about blessing water they are all about how the Council of Chalcedon commentaries means women shouldn't be allowed to drive forklift trucks.

Also *amazing* how all the same people who argued we shouldn't transition to renewables because we had access to fossil carbon fuels now argue that the supply crunch on fossil carbon fuels means we shouldn't transition to renewables.

"Mexico’s 120 million citizens will begin to enjoy free, universal access to healthcare from next year, following a decree by socialist president Claudia Sheinbaum.

The landmark policy will unify a fragmented and unequal system that has left many unable to receive care..."

You know what would be amazing, if Vance can negotiate an agreement where Iran doesn't enrich above 3.67% (far below weapons grade); gets rid of 98% of its stockpile of uranium; has weekly inspections by the IAEA; and commits to all of this for at 10 years. Oh, yeah, that was the Obama Iran deal.

my idea of economics was forever changed when this girl in ninth grade was like “your family’s rich” and i said “yeah right, my dad’s a journalist and my mom’s a teacher, do the math” and she said “my dad’s a magician”

The problem with the NDIS - and there is a problem - is the same one Australia always faces. If you let small businesses exploit the public purse, they'll exploit it mercilessly (remember pink batts or any one of a 100 such programs). The key is in the system design, not the auditing of it.

Strip away the "economic anxiety" and "traditional values" and you're left with people voting for a monster because the monster promised to eat the people they believe must be eaten.

The cruelty is not a side effect of their politics so much as the glue that holds their entire worldview together.

The horror of sitting across from a Trump voter is the realization that they do not believe in universal human rights. Simple as.

They believe in a tiered, racist and patriarchical system of humanity, and they're voting to ensure they remain at the top of it.

The "duped voter" narrative is a comforting myth. If only we had better messaging.

The reality is tens of millions of voters looked at a platform of mass deportation, ethnic cleansing, state violence, and the dismantling of civil rights, clearly understood it, and said, "Yes, that is what I want."

So the US spent billions blowing shit up in Iran, now the rest of the world will spend billions on tolls to move stuff through the straits to rebuild the shit that the US and Israel blew up. Got it. We have to subsidise stupidity

Israel is blowing up entire civilian homes in Naqoura, South Lebanon right now.

Civilian homes.

No military target.

No justification.

Just pure terror and destruction.

This is a war crime in broad daylight.

And the world watches in silence.

Just so:

"An administration official said the events of the weekend have animated the president and made him eager to apply even more pressure on the Iranians as he seeks a deal."

Qt: Main takeaway for me is that the US has demonstrated it can operate inside Iran, Iran has demonstrated it can make such operations very costly, but from the US perspective the successful exfiltration and Iran's apparent inability to directly disrupt the operation has likely produce more confidence that further operations are possible, rather than less.

it's the Caracas Delusion all over again

the incredible operational skill of the US military when given an achievable goal (rescuing pilots, kidnapping a possibly coup'd head of state) leads the US government to assign them unachievable goals

1. One of my biggest frustrations is the #auspol discourse about tax & spending ignores that regardless of what we do costs are going to increase because of structural factors (geopolitics, climate change & demography). The choice is how we distribute the cost, not whether we can avoid paying for it

Australian tax discourse needs to move beyond the fixation with budget neutrality and "compensation". The most important tax reform priority now is to get more of it.

More revenue is necessary to meet existing social policy obligations in the coming years, let alone expand them.
