I leave the running to my wife, unless I'm being chased. (Checks vicinity.)

Seems okay now. (Resumes not running.)

😂 In the history of the solar system, what's been more reliable than the sun?

I suspect it’s because our minds take the path of least resistance: division is easier than empathy & nuance. Anger gives quick certainty and compassion demands effort. Current politics rewards what is easiest, even if it’s most costly for society. Social media modeled it and individuals adopted it.

Trump took every brake off "AI safety" in favor of maximum investment in the sector and growth. When it sinks in for him the sector is building the thing that takes the jobs from the people he'll turn on that too. Likely unfold in real time on socials. With jobs numbers like these it could be soon.

I've had a @nytimes.com subscription for as long as I can remember. They are talking me out of it.

A harbinger of terrible things to come. SC was the last guardrail. US is in deep trouble. It's substantially easier to dismantle than build anything lasting. If this administration isn’t the final straw a future one with this playbook will be. There are many challenges & few satisfactory responses.

I became interested in what it might be like to experience @davidkipping.bsky.social's proposed Halo Drive, so I attempted an AI generated video, prioritizing realism. I think it looks pretty cool, though I'm not sure our spaceship got launched to anywhere in particular.

f(caffeine) = g(alertness). Makes perfect sense to me.

The First Amendment restricts THE GOVERNMENT from abridging the freedom of speech, not other private persons or entities. This is often misunderstood by the general public and common knowledge to any first year law student.

I've been reading popular explanatory science books for decades. This rings true & looks familiar to me. I've learned to appreciate and gravitate towards the books and authors who trust readers & dive deeper. Your "Biggest Ideas" series is my model for this style. To be honest, it has helped me lot.

A Mindscape episode to discuss and explain this paper would be great.

Many parallels between Nixon & Trump admins. Though, I suspect history will reveal a terrible difference. We have excruciating details on Nixon's administration. There are memos, notes, recordings. Trump admin details will be forever lost. He doesn’t read and they are avoiding archived channels.

When I was in law school, the civil rights division at DOJ was viewed as a place where lawyers could maximize their positive impact. It was also one of the most coveted jobs imaginable. This says everything about the people who have worked there and those driving them out.

If SCOTUS modifies birthright citizenship in any way it will dismantle the last bits of credibility the has left. It will bring us to a level of constitutional crises that Trump could not achieve on his own. #scotus

My most intimate relationships are with my wife, my dog, and the back scratcher I keep at my desk.

The Titanic is sinking and these people are standing on the deck trying to sell books about the integrity of the wood the Mayflower was made of. It is truly shameful.

@nytimes.com needs to make some quality of life improvements to the website. First, it's 2025, WHERE IS DARK MODE? Also, every article should have a TTS option with playback speed control. These features are 5+ years late. Please get on it.

Dark chocolate. Tastes better. A moderately healthier choice. Just saying.

US should seriously consider nationalizing Starlink. There are very good arguments for why it is in the national interest.

I can listen to @seanmcarroll.bsky.social, Scott Aaronson, and a handful of others endlessly pontificate. Yet my attention span is not sufficient to conquer the warning instructions of the electrical equipment I'm not qualified to install in my home.

The "research" Kennedy references doesn't have "authors," studies, protocols, or statistical analysis. He wants people to consume junk internet content designed to invoke emotion. Unfortunately, these instructions are unlikely to resolve the issue of an incompetent and idealogical HHS Secretary.

This has pros and cons. Unfortunately, it creates a class system in what is supposed to be an open forum. We who don't post often, find ourselves increasingly left out of the conversation because the algorithm doesn't promote our posts and users are less inclined to interact when there's no check.

We need moral and intellectual leaders like yourself to step forward in our time. Know anyone? Asking for a nation and everyone who depends on it.

This is among the best deals out there. It's not even tariffed. I'm looking forward to the third volume.

How Elon Musk’s SpaceX Secretly Allows Investment From China As a U.S. military contractor, SpaceX sees allowing Chinese ownership as fraught. But it will allow the investment if it comes through secrecy hubs like the Cayman Islands, court records say. “It is c...

SpaceX's domination of space launch & information markets, instability of Musk, DoD's stated reliance, meddling in foreign war, & covert Chinese investment aren't compatible with US national security. US should seriously consider nationalization of SpaceX, in whole or part. I'd start with Starlink.
