I don’t know why trans YA horror specifically is weenieville but it’s a bummer because I’ve loved some ideas and my passion for adult trans horror is enormous- like probably one of my favorite subgenres
And I specify this because I feel like there is a lot of young adult non trans horror that transcends - and a lot of adult non trans horror that is dumber than it should be.
There is a frustratingly tender element to young adult trans horror that I am finding I just do not like. Adult trans horror just feels like it respects your intelligence and a lot of the YA stuff feels corny
I’m reading a lot of transgender horror right now, and the difference between the adult and young adult is really significant. When I’m reading adults trans Horror it was feel so brilliant and profound. When I’m reading YA trans horror it’s an inescapable cycle of weenie protagonists
