After criticisms of delays, council confirms new section of South East Greenway to open Billed as connecting the Norman Town of New Ross to the Viking city of Waterford, the latest section of the along-awaited South East Greenway is due to open this month. The 7km section from Waterford City to Curraghmore has been "substantially complete for the last 12 months", but is awaiting the construction of car parks on both ends, and other elements.

Dublin rush-hour commute by bike, car and bus: Bike wins RTÉ News has undertaken a very non-scientific methodology to see how three different modes of transport fared during Dublin's rush-hour.

An unsurprising outcome for any of us who regularly move around on two wheels, but a worthwhile experiment. With petrol and diesel increasing in price every day, it's a good time to try out your local bike share scheme, or dust off that bike gathering cobwebs in the shed!

Build it and they will come and they'll want more. Safe, segregated cycling and pedestrian infrastructure improves safety and experience for all road users.

87% also said they wanted enforcement on illegal footpath parking: something that endangers pedestrians, removes accessibility & sightlines.

Footpath parking is illegal and it's a blight on our towns. It reduces accessibility, visibility, and causes a serious hazard on our roads.

This video shows why it is so important that we respect the footpaths and highlights the need for more robust enforcement by local councils and the GardaĂ.

Ok. You're right. But why stop at cyclists? Let's make pedestrians wear high-vis and helmets too! It's safer right? Actually, let's make absolutely everyone wear high-vis and helmets at all times everywhere (except people in cars obviously!) so people driving cars feel better

I spoke about the Government’s ridiculous proposal to criminalise cyclists who don’t wear helmets 🪖

The fact they even proposed this betrays their complete lack of understanding of what makes our roads unsafe for cyclists & pedestrians đźš—đźš™ @labour.ie @dublincycling.bsky.social

Many rail users in the south-east travel to and from train stations using both bike share schemes & their own bikes.

Government should be encouraging people to travel using public transport and active travel as opposed to discouraging them doing so with unscientific, knee-jerk legislation.

Today we wrote to Minister O'Brien outlining our opposition to the mandatory helmet and hi-vis proposals.

We'd encourage our members to email their local TDs to outline their views. @irishcyclingcmpn.bsky.social have outlined the research below:

The Irish Cycling Campaign will be appearing before the Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport today.
The focus today is on Road Safety.
We look forward to discussing the importance of a public health-led, safe systems approach to road danger reduction.

This is incredibly disappointing and will surely threaten the success of the Bolt e-bike and e-scooter scheme in #Wexford. This will only serve to discourage people from cycling.

Car brain government = car brain policies without any basis in research or evidence.

Yellow text on black background wear what you want ride what you want - that’s all there is to it

There can be some gatekeeping in the cycling community so just remember that when it comes to biking there are only two rules: Wear what you want. Ride what you want and don't let anyone tell you differently

We often hear comments of the Newtown Rd not being heavily used by bicycle riders..

🤔Imagine if the council created a road that began and finished at either side of a field, how many drivers would use it? 🤔

Once it is added to & joined up, then we’ll see..

Judge's comments show bias against cyclists is 'deeply embedded' in Irish society There are five actions we can take to save lives on our roads, if we choose to implement them

www.irishexaminer.com/opinion/comm... Worked with a team in Finland re active travel, they genuinely could not fathom why people objected to cycle lanes here. "But you are making their lives better?" Ah no, you see, we hate cyclists.

Cycling without a helmet and high-vis clothing may be made criminal offences in Ireland -- Law areound cyclists being reviewed with e-scooter proposals for helmets and high-vis. Seán Canney, the Minister of State for road safety, is considering making it illegal to cycle without a helmet and high-vis on public roads in Ireland. It has already been reported by other media outlets that the Department of Transport was looking at compulsory helmets and high-vis for e-scooter users, but confirmation that the legal review also included bicycle users was outlined in an answer to a parliamentary question in recent days.

Sitting in the pub/café in the train station in Chester on the Welsh-English border and they have free bike locks for your bike while you eat/wait/travel. A great idea to encourage multi-modal travel. Something for our friends in @seontrack.bsky.social might be interested in too! #bike #train

We echo this sentiment. The RSA badly needs reform. Not only are lives being lost but people are also suffering from life changing injuries at unacceptably high rates due to the lack of action on road safety. We also call on @darraghobrientd.bsky.social to enact the promised reform.

Shameless Garda PR blitz links road deaths to visibility issues in cases where there is no link Comment & Analysis: Sadly, I have to start this article by saying, for the avoidance of doubt, nothing in this article says 'don't be visible'. Lights are a legal requirement, and it'd be a good start if the Gardai enforced them, and people walking should take steps to be visible on unlit roads. I get it, nobody likes it when people are walking on unlit roads in the dark without lights and wearing dark clothing, and it's annoying when some cyclists think they are ninjas.
