Yeah! I still will defend docking and cropping for those specific reasons, when done properly by a vet. Like, livestock guard dogs and what not who may end up with an ear ripped off by a coyote or wolf defending it's sheep. But tbh breeding those features in is 1000000000% better in every situation.

That makes sense! I imagine it also had the benifit of protecting their tail from damage on hunts. I know a lot of dogs with thinner tails/less fluffy ones can end up degloving their tail on a branch. Boxers are notorious for tail injuries like that
