“That’s all anybody can do right now. Live. Hold out. Survive. I don’t know whether good times are coming back again. But I know that won’t matter if we don’t survive these times.”
― Octavia E. Butler, Parable of the Sower

We hit 70% with just 7 days to go!!
That's comparable to paying a service, but at least you know your money goes to the musicians or folks actually building the tools.
Note that the cost says $19-35/month, but $15 of that is buying on bandcamp once a month, $4 is the host (and you can host yourself for free), and the rest is optional donation (tho I recommend donating to the hard work where you can).
I guess this project is less "degoogling" and moreso "moving away from big shitty tech". Switched browser, switched to linux, and I was recently chatting a pal about hosting your own streaming service. Found this write up on it that's nice for any interested folks:

Switched to linux, forgot to backup my DS3 save files so I’m starting over. I backed up everything except my steam saves whoops 💀 i knew it was a risk and I don’t mind restarting
One thing that astounds me is the insane cognitive dissonance in a lot of the linux community. They talk about winslop and security/privacy but then just talk about how much they use chatgpt/gemini ????? ?? ?
Meaghan out here casually flexing her environmental rendering skills to us plebs 😤
Go support this comic!!!
And then there's combos. So in this image of my keymap, red buttons are keys pressed to access a layer (or a combo at the very end). Things with a line together are also combos (so x+c is copy, c+v is paste, x+v is cut). The tool that draws up this map isn't labeling it rn but it's there promise
for anyone wondering how you type on something with so few keys-- layers!! It seems complicated to folks but you technically use layers every day using the shift button (among others). It's slower at first, but zippy as you tailor a keyboard to presses that feel the best to you.
Also for anyone wondering, I forked this repo for keymaps (I definitely plan on more (34-36 key boards so I like the shared structure here)
I've done some tweaks to make the combos more windows friendly for now, and I've moved some of the homerow mods and keys around to my own preferences
At least it gets harder in my case. It's more just about the time in backing up files etc.
My biggest concern was with CSP, but it seems to work with Wine, and you can try linux from a usb boot before fully getting rid of windows!
I got spare PCBS and some parts 👀
For me, Windows already adds so much junk, and the next one will be even more AI. While that won't be until 2027, the longer you wait, the harder it gets to transfer.
Also some time next week or the week after (depending on when I finish DS3 haha), I'm planning to finally make the switch to Linux on my home PC. This video does a great job going over the reasons why (and they have lots of great Linux videos).

Now to edit the keymap...
We had an interview with @fanbasepress.bsky.social about IRON BARGE⚔️✨
We talked about the story, and what funding this book through Kickstarter means to us!
a tweet from @/ThefirstJonk on 2/19/25 that reads: "Oh so no death cab for ugly? Ugly has to walk?"
got a much needed long laugh from this

A digital illustration of a pair of figures facing each other. One sits above the other, her long and curly hair drapes down her back, parted by large and thin bone-like spines that protrude from her back. Decorative stones and gems dangle from ropes tied to these spines. The other figure is knelt down before the other. Her face draped with a cloth that is held by the first figure. This one has horns and strange meaty wings. Her mouth is agape in either ecstasy or shock, or perhaps both. At the feet of the first figure, a mass of flesh coalesces into grasping hands, which climb up their robes. Behind them, a decorative structure ornamented with elaborate eyes watches over the scene as it unfolds.

Took me a while to finish this, mostly due to a lack of spoons. But I managed to wrap it up today, and I think I'm happy with it.
omg rip massdrop/drop. No more MT3 keycaps 😭
