I used a bike rack this weekend that exists because I complained about it not existing.
You can make things better, even just a little.

I live in a neighborhood that has single family homes (with historically significant architecture) right around the corner for apartments/multi-family homes and it’s AWESOME.
10/10 would recommend we BUILD more.
What if the direct action was absorbing the small (9K), self-governing village back into the City of Chicago that it borders?
The crosswalk with an activated walk signal outside an elementary school is about as visible as they come…but we still have drivers acting surprised when there’s pedestrians in it.
Cool. My electric mixer stirs faster than my finger
Bike + Roundabout story time:
A car decided I was too slow as we approached a roundabout and decided to pass me.
Said car did not accurately judge my speed or how much space they had to pass.
Said car drove around the roundabout the wrong way.
Hand-carved Owl Door (Copenhagen, 1930s).
My community has worked to make it safer for pedestrians/cyclists. I think their biggest win is lowering the speed limit on our “Bike Boulevards” to 20 MPH.
The 10 MPH reduction makes a MASSIVE difference in terms of visibility (and meaningfully reduces bad outcomes if a collision occurs).
Graphic showing the survival rate of a person surviving a collision with cars at various speeds. At 20 MPH, they have a 90% survival rate. At 30 MPH, they survival rate drops to 60%. At 40 MPH, they survival rate drops to 20%.
In light of the recent conflagration about driver responsibility, it’s important to remind folks that speed literally kills… it decreases reaction time and increases breaking time.
it’s okay to drive slower in an area where visibility is restricted! Not many people know this.
A black and white photo of some children holding balloons in front of a basketball hoop. A sign above them reads in Dutch, “Stop de kindermoord” (stop the child murder)
Little known fact about the Dutch “stop de kindermoord” road safety campaign (Stop the Child Murder) was that it was famous for its politeness!
Sounds like something someone who doesn’t wear a walking helmet would say. /s
Attention #BikeChi. Monday Coffee in North Lawndale (16th and Kedzie) has SIX new staple style racks right out front.
Their brown sugar syrup with cardamom in an iced latte is an S-tier drink on a hot day.

The image on the right (specifically) now has me craving Kouign Amann. IYKYK.
I’m an avid cyclist and just yesterday I saw a car turn left through a crosswalk full of people (children) where the walk signal was active…if I run a red it’s probably because it’s sometimes the safer option for me.
After big dams on the upper Klamath River in far northern CA were removed in 2024, Chinook (king) salmon migrated upstream for the first time in 100+ years--and now they have hatched.
This but when the auto flush sensor goes off 5 times while you’re still on the toilet.

Still not as bad as the year the DPRT River overflowed and caused water damage at Gene and Jude’s but pretty wild nonetheless.
Bike rack with a car parked in front of it and metal chains tying it down to two steel posts.
Car-brained ass bike rack.
Heavy emphasis on the “river” part of DPRT these days.
See you out there!
I can’t explain it, but I’m pretty sure I own all of these.
My library didn't have this book, so I requested the purchase it (and I just got the notification they did).
I also ordered my own copy from a local bookstore whose foot traffic is down to a street closure to replace old (lead) pipes.
She’s a healthy 11-year old now (was several years ago now).
This is giving me flashbacks to the time I road this stretch with my daughter on our way back from SW Michigan to pick up the South Shore Line near Indiana Dunes State Park.
…unbeknownst to us (and to medical professionals who examined her when we got home), she had a perforated appendix 🤒
Now that the Chicago Public Library is opening a new branch (inside the Obama Presidential Center!), I’m definitely regretting my decision to ride newest-to-oldest…
…in other news, if any one knows Barack or Michelle Obama so I can visit the new branch on opening day, LMK!
It was a protest ride for some of our local elected officials who were charged on a bullshit “spontaneous conspiracy” charge for their role at a protest at a nearby ICE facility…

Hexe on Diversey/Damen has one. Milli by Metric should have a cute one (they’re still building out).
My kinda carrying on!
