It was a great Record Store Day afternoon at Forever Changes today, featuring Wesley ‘John Wesley Harding’ Stace and Anna Spackman. @foreverchangespxv.bsky.social @annaspackmanmusic.bsky.social @wesleystace.bsky.social
I will check this out!
This is great! The “plate of shrimp” scene is my all time favorite movie scene and it’s also kind of my philosophy of life.
Bonnie Tyler hot take: “It’s a Heartache” is exponentially more awesome than “Total Eclipse of the Heart.”
But shall this crazed old man be tamely suffered to drag a whole ship’s company down to doom with him?
I am not familiar with them, and I am still vaguely attempting to wrap my head around Geese.
And I will get back to that Hejira essay.
I second this emotion.
There is good-Bob-Dylan-weird and bad-Bob-Dylan-weird and it’s important to know the difference. Bob launching an AI-based Patreon is bad-Bob-Dylan-weird.
I am listening to the “Wichita Lineman” cover with Nick Cave on vocals now. As someone who has read an entire book on that song, I felt like I should start there. Also, I have a weird little possible Kiedis story to tell you sometime.
41 years ago today, I saw Roger Waters perform his entire Pros and Cons of Hitchhiking album live. It was the 2nd time in six months I saw him play that album live. I am going to celebrate that anniversary today by NOT listening to The Pros and Cons of Hitchhiking. www.setlist.fm/setlist/roge...
Greetings from Philadelphia, complaining about kings for 250 years. #nokings
Lifelong Pennsylvanian here. When I was in 7th grade, after years of practicing cursive, my teacher, Sister So-and-So, screamed in no uncertain terms, “You write like a banshee!” She was referring to my cursive, not my creative writing style. My cursive has not improved in the 50 years since then.
“Hard Luck Woman” by KISS has no right being as awesome as it is.
My Daily Records for March 23 were Michael Stipe & Andrew Watt’s new song, “I Played the Fool” and Clyde McPhatter’s Greatest Hits. @michaelstipe.bsky.social richs-house-of-vinyl.beehiiv.com/p/daily-reco...
As today is winding down, I'm here to announce that my present and past Daily Records today are by Thin Lear and Sun Ra respectively. You can read about them on my Rich's House of Vinyl blog. richs-house-of-vinyl.beehiiv.com/p/daily-reco...
Yesterday’s Daily Records were by Jesper Lindell and Elvis Presley. richs-house-of-vinyl.beehiiv.com/p/daily-reco...
I am reviving my Rich’s House of Vinyl website with a new entry about “Wind Blows Through,” the evocative new single by @annaspackmanmusic.bsky.social ; and a WFIL compilation album from 1972. richs-house-of-vinyl.beehiiv.com/p/daily-reco...
Getting Steve McCroskey vibes from this stupid Trump coin.
Sad to hear that the I Have That on Vinyl website is closing but I am thankful to Michele for starting it and making space for great essays that met at the intersection of music writing and memoir. IHTOV was the perfect space for the Frank Black piece @ingalls1969.bsky.social and I wrote together.
Seems like a natural nickname for Kavanaugh.
I am typing up a big list of my collection right now so this is a timely post for me. I wonder about things like soundtracks by a single composer. I think about these things a lot. I have never been much for filing by genre.
Alphabetical by artist, chronological within each artist. Followed by compilations, movie and tv soundtracks, cast recordings, oddities, and finally Christmas. I did have a bunch of R.E.M.-adjacent bands filed with them in an “R.E.M. and friends area but I just broke that up.
