Magnificat, my ass

Weird moment in church today when someone was reading the Magnificat. I made me angry ... then made me rethink.

Capitol police arrest pastor during prayer protest Rev. William Barber was praying against severe budget cuts feared to jeopardize programs including Medicaid and Social Security.

#ChristianPersecution #AntiChristianBias Disciples of Christ pastor William Barber arrested in Capitol for praying. Huh. Wonder why all those other pastors got away with it just fine in the past?

Meditating this morning on that famous quote from Micah 6:8. Justice, kindness, and an intimate walk with God (personal spirituality). Isn't that just a simple definition for a good life?

Wow. Watching the current “president” come unglued in the Oval Office with Ukrainian president on live tv. He is not mentally stable, talking about World War III.

One of the objects of the boycott is simply to let corporations know that we are paying attention, and we do care. #DEI

ABC to Pay $15 Million to Settle a Defamation Suit Brought by Trump The outcome of the lawsuit marks an unusual victory for President-elect Donald J. Trump in his ongoing legal campaign against national news organizations.

Y'all. This has actually kept me awake last night thinking about this. When the press is intimidated by power, it can no longer speak truth to it -- or to us.
Plus, I've been getting texts from MSNBC asking if as a Dem I still watch/trust it. What is up with this?

This is on my To-Read list, but honestly, so are 15000 others. So I might at best read snippets...

this was an eye-opener on why it is impossible to discuss religion/spirituality or your "new take" on things with certain people. They simply can't understand you ... [or perhaps, you them]. A bit sad, but the journey often is for you alone.

might have run across his name in seminary, as one does with so many scholars and movement leaders that one never had time to actually read. But ran across him again recently in connection with early 20th c. Catholic Workers movement. Bought the book (also as one does) but haven't read it.

Funny how you can discover something sooo good that’s been sitting on your bookshelf for 10 years. Reading this with a group and loving it so much. Maybe I wasn’t ready for it 10 yrs ago?

Had to unfollow CNN. Didn’t want to recreate another channel of doom scrolling.
This is a fresh chance at curating something else.

So, for those of us/you who are on FB, how does this work? Do you double-post? Post unique stuff in each place? I never really used X/Twitter, so I'm adjusting to looking flipping between apps....

Just bought 2 Christmas CDs. Jake doesn't understand it. He only buys digital music and movies. Any of my old-timer friends still prefer (& collect) hard media? Or do I just have a "collecting" obsession -- like an actual library of books and music?
