It Could Lead to Tens of Thousands of Deaths. In the Meantime, It’s Wreaking Havoc on Americans’ Sanity. Imagine not being able to feed your kid because of a mistake on a piece of paperwork.

A mom and widow who had benefits cut because of a mistake on a form. A home health aide making $13/hour who said food pantries are so overwhelmed, they couldn't really help. A student who said SNAP access supported eating disorder recovery. So many people are being impacted:

For @slate.com & @economichardship.bsky.social, I reported on how chaos and changes surrounding SNAP benefits are taking a toll.

People described endless fear and worry over feeding their kids, where their next meal will come from, and whether SNAP could become even more difficult to access.

Steelers deserve all of this for even allowing that man anywhere near the building. He fucking stinks AND he's a bhole. What is he bringing to the table besides Ivermectin shakes and some horseshit about the Library of Alexandria

This is mostly true, but I'll say it varies wildly depending on what state you grew up in. I ended up at an Ivy because I wanted to get the hell out of Alabama, and of my out-of-state options, Princeton had the best financial aid.

And there was a massive social split b/t donor kids & broke kids.

Philanthropy radio is not public radio.

When and how are we going to have a robust public media system that's *actually* funded by the public? One that is secure from autocratic meddling and destruction?

What if public media didn't have to regularly beg for support?

I've been thinking about the backlash Marie Kondo got and I think part of it was not just that she was saying "buy less shit" she was explicitly say "only buy what actually makes you happy" and in a nation of conspicuous consumption it pissed people off.

And hey, nobody ever forget: this was because her late husband’s sons were greedy bastards and stole both cars, reported her to ICE, re-routed the mail so she wouldn’t see anything about her Immigration case & are in the process of stealing the estate, all because their dad married an old flame.

this is something that i don’t think is widely understood, as someone who has worked over a decade in robotics

most of the people building robotics are absolutely not thinking through the consequences of the technology.

this is part of why i think humanities and ethics should be required education

In the same manifesto, Palantir's owners argued that we need a national military draft, that soft power is over, and that we were too hard on Germany and Japan after World War II. I don't think that company should be allowed to exist anymore.

3 white men in their 20s attempted to lynch 3 Black men for....fishing last Friday. The only reason it's an attempted murder charge is one of the Black men was armed and a better shot. It's not about the year someone was born, it's about the racism

There are many reasons I believe in the separation of Church and State and "you can't disagree with the head of state, that's against theology" is probably the most prominent "absolutely not" scenario.

Federal judge unloads on ‘unserious’ RFK Jr., says anti-trans policy showed his ‘cruelty’ Judge Mustafa T. Kasubhai vacated the “Kennedy Declaration,” finding it unlawfully attempted to override medical standards and restrict care for transgender youth.

Breaking: HHS’s ban on gender-affirming care is struck down. Rarely have I read a ruling this sharply worded.

“This case is one of a long list of examples of how a leader’s wanton disregard for the rule of law causes very real harm to very real people.”

Screenshotted excerpt from linked article reading as follows:

"In public, Chief Justice John G. Roberts Jr. has cultivated a reputation for care and caution. The papers reveal a different side of him. At a critical moment for the country and the court, the papers show, he acted as a bulldozer in pushing to stop Mr. Obama’s plan to address the global climate crisis.

When colleagues warned the chief justice that he was proposing an unprecedented move, he was dismissive. “I recognize that the posture of this stay request is not typical,” he wrote. But he argued that the Obama plan, which aimed to regulate coal-fired plants, was “the most expensive regulation ever imposed on the power sector,” and too big, costly and consequential for the court not to act immediately."

It's hard to articulate the level of anger & rage I have about watching this happen. I first saw weev doxx people I love *TWENTY* years ago. I spoke to founders of multiple social networks about the risk of these people over 15 years ago. I wrote about it all a dozen+ years ago. They let it happen.

Tennessee Senate Passes Amended Trans Healthcare Tracking Bill As Tennessee State Senators came to the floor on Monday afternoon, about two dozen activists formed a wall in the hallway, singing to the lawmakers.

While everyone wants you debating if the economy's up, the Trump regime's soon to declare a ban on trans youth healthcare nationwide, Ohio is trying to outright ban us from public life, & Tennessee just passed a registry to publicly list every trans person in the state.
