Seen many ID docs become Chief Quality or Chief Medical Officers and lead huge teams after serving in many of these (including telehealth) positions. Great series of posts Paul

Great series for #IDSky

I’d add for AS and IC, you can seek agreements outside your institution. Many rural hospitals and nursing homes without ID physicians are willing to pay for these services.

A great way to combine #4 and #5 into tele-stewardship!

Tragic Childhood Death from Measles Reminds Us That Some Don't Understand Either the Medical Significance or the Human Heart My ID colleague Dr. Adam Ratner, Chief of Pediatric ID at NYU Medical Center, just published an insightful and remarkably timely book called Booster Shots:  The Urgent Lessons of Measles and the Uncer...

If someone thinks the measles outbreak and childhood death in Texas are "not unusual" or "happens all the time", they are deeply misinformed. h/t @adamratnermd.bsky.social for the inspiration.

Trump Administration Halts H.I.V. Drug Distribution in Poor Countries (Gift Article) PEPFAR’s computer systems also are being taken offline, a sign that the program may not return, as Republican critics had hoped.

"Trump administration has instructed organizations in other countries to stop disbursing H.I.V. medications purchased with U.S. aid, even if the drugs have already been obtained and are sitting in local clinics"

AHRQ script for talking to nursing home residents and their families about UTIs.

Today I fielded a call from a colleague about “recurrent UTI” in a nursing home resident. It turned into a great diagnostic stewardship opportunity where I shared this great resource from AHRQ on talking to residentes and families about UTI/ASB.

Interesting, we’ve been working through manual testing algorithms but perhaps the threat of sending to reference labs would be a useful intervention!

Hello #IDSky #Microsky #AMSSky!

Has your micro lab recently updated VITEK Gram negative cards? Have you been dealing with new limitations related to Enterobacter and Morganella reporting (among others)?

We’d love to hear how you’re working through it and share ideas! Please reach out!

Report: Flu vaccine over 50% effective against severe illness among US children from 2015 to 2020

Influenza vaccines for this year are about 50% effective against all severity of influenza in adults and slightly more effective in young children, about 62% against severe infections. This is a good level of protection and it matters. Get a flu shot🧪

Does your microbiology lab routinely perform susceptibility testing for Cutibacterium acnes?

If so, is it only for joint fluid/orthopedic surgical cultures?
