Okay but what if you think you’re not even good enough to have imposter syndrome?

There are few things more demoralizing to a software developer with nearly 30 years of professional experience than being told by a person who admits they are not a coder and who just regurgitates whatever an LLM yells them that you don't know how to do your own job.

For anyone who cares about weird facts, today the GPF site has been live and online for 10,000 days. (Technically, it's probably more than that, but let's not count the couple of weeks between when I bought the domain name and when the first strip appeared.)

Lune from "Clair Obscur: Expedition 33". A young, beautiful woman with dark hair and a row of magic runes tattooed down the left side of her face. She holds up her right gloved hand, producing a magical flame.

1985 - First "copyrighted" comic (i.e., first time I wrote "Copyright JTD" in pencil)
198? - Attempted to get said comic printed in the local paper. Still have rejection letter.
November 1998 - GPF begins
November 2024 - GPF ends
January 2025 - SM2 begins

Unfortunately, no. Most of the ones I'm aware of have ended or, worse, gone completely offline. Even the venerable "User Friendly" isn't advisable; my DNS provider blocks it due to a "security threat". (Perhaps the neglected site got hacked?)

Printed books aren't very likely at this point, but I haven't given up hope. DRM-free e-books *ARE* on the agenda, but I don't have an ETA for those yet.

Well nuts. Didn't see this until now. Guess I know what I'm doing next... (Thanks, BTW.)

There were a few bumps getting it to work (apparently my Perl is getting rusty), but "rerun mode" should be working now. Enjoy!

General Protection Fault General Protection Fault is a wacky, zany on-line comic strip full of geeky fun, bizarre characters, and a sentient slime mold or two. The strip runs three days per week, every Monday, Wednesday, and ...

Congratulations to @gpfjeff.bsky.social for a long and successful run of General Protection Fault. The site entered rerun mode today with the inaugural strip from November 2, 1998. www.gpf-comics.com

In case no one has noticed, the GPF site is now in "rerun mode". It should show a "new" old strip each day, starting from the beginning of the archive. Naturally, you can still scroll through the archive and read it from beginning to end, but at least the front page should have something "new" daily

Eh, "SM2" got its start during the run of "SM1", which was Year 4 of the comic, so 20 is the closer multiple of 5 to round to. But it's still insignificant on a geological/astronomical scale, so who's counting? (Thanks, by the way.)

Dear Game Developers:

If you insist on having a mechanic where you need to precisely mash buttons to flap bird wings to maintain flight, PLEASE add a workaround for old arthritic thumbs that can't do this for more than a few minutes tops.

Sincerely,

Every gamer over 50

I agree with all of the above: "Study in Scarlet" may be first, but it's the weakest. "Baskervilles" is the best of the novels. The short stories are what everyone considers the core of Holmesian lore. Don't be afraid to skip ahead.

It is finished. The final page of "Surreptitious Machinations II" is finally in the update queue. The "epic" over two decades in the making finally concludes on November 17, 2025.

You're always welcome to use Sam Spaniel (Private Eye) if you want. I know you had some scans of him in the past, but if you need a reference, ping me and I can dig up some.

GPF is currently down due to an issue with our service provider. Techs are on the case, but I have no ETA for the fix.

It involved months of intense study over an ancient, dusty, weathered text call "the Atlas", and making a sacrifice of oil, tire rubber, and chicken blood to the great gods Rand and McNally.
