They had no qualms whatsoever to throw me out onto the the streets because of their god-bothering beliefs, but now expect me to cook meals for them when I visit for a week or so because they're now elderly and not very mobile.

I remained estranged from parents for about 2 years and then my sister was sent to re-establish a connection, and from that point on my parents acted like nothing had happened.

They erased it from their minds.

I can still remember the exact words my parents said:

"We're going to church and we don't want you to be here when we get back."

I've never forgotten it.

Another friend of mine at around the same time was also kicked out of home by his parents for being gay.

He was 18 and later took his own life from carbon monoxide poisoning.
