Another session at #mathsconf40 was looking at some of the fantastic NCETM Checkpoint activities with @garethshadick.bsky.social - some great discussions were had!!!
Highly recommend these resources, there are lots of additional links and guidance on PPTs.

Good to catch up, Pete. Hope to see you again soon.

An early start on a miserable morning to get down to London for the first @amiemathematics.bsky.social members day. But that just means the day can only get better! Especially when I get to catch up with the lovely Emma Bell and @learningmaths.bsky.social (amongst many others I am sure).

Good to see you. Thank you for coming along.
The field of maths has always had remarkable women. History has just been quieter about them.
A few years ago I wrote about Mary Somerville in my Roots column for @chalkdustmag.bsky.social - a mathematician who followed her curiosity despite the expectations placed on women at the time. 🧵
Great article by @tomrocksmaths.bsky.social. Getting to the top levels in maths is possible for all groups and backgrounds, but it is currently harder for some people than others. Hence why equity in maths education at all prior attainment levels is so important @meimaths.bsky.social
It’s International Women’s Day which gives me a good opportunity to reflect and recognise that I’m privileged to work in a team of inspiring women who challenge and support me.
btw - if you’re wondering then
1) have a word with yourself
and
2) it’s 19th November
I’m thinking about similarity at the moment and realised that I haven’t done a Less, Same, More for ages.
(I first came across the task type in a session from John Mason I think)
Does this work?

Setting up resources for this intervention phase with yr 11 I'm really pleased to see the last phase worked.
I see this because I can't reuse any of the old resources because they know those topics. So much work but at least it impacted.
The Ofqual consultation about the use of a formula sheet in GCSE maths is here until 23rd March

This brought back memories during the @ncetm.bsky.social PD Lead course today. With @learningmaths.bsky.social
There are six small pink squares, and a larger tilted purple square which shares ones vertex with the bottom pink square. One vertex of the top pink square lies on the top edge of the purple square. A line from the bottom right vertex of the rightmost pink square makes an unknown angle with the left side of the purple square.
Seven squares. What’s the angle?

Yes, I hadn’t realised until after I’d been surprised that it looped back to the first.
What’s been interesting too is that the people I’ve shown it to often thought initially that the first set of rectangles *are* similar and then corrected themselves when they got to the third.
When I was putting this sequence together, this isn't how I expected the third one to look! Did you?
