In old d&d versions, each level gave the character an in-game title, so characters and the world were definitely aware of their power levels, and adventuring guilds were looking for specific titled adventurers

Just with friends. We're in Europe; at that time only few campaigns were available here.

By the way, in a more or less codified way, it IS in the rules of d&d - the "tiers of play" were you advance from local, to kingdom, to continent, to multiverse threatening adversaries.

Just finished our monthly game night. I played Go and Love Letter.

I hadn't played Go in at least 20 years, but somehow managed to win 1 (of 2) games against an experienced player. Beginner's luck, most likely.

My d&d 'Family Matters' party just met their first dragon - a silver dragon posing as the CEO of the local ice factory.
They also learned that six sessions ago, they have mistaken an evil wizard for a friend.
Now, there is a fight with an adult red dragon looming in their near future.

DMing is fun!

Nat 1 does not exist in D&D for skill checks (checks that have a difficulty)
It only exists in 2 places in combat
1. attacks - you miss
2. death saving throws - when you are unconscious and heavily wounded

All other cases are table rules by people that prefer randomness above anything else

Having some busy d&d days ahead with 3 different groups: playing Thursday night, DMing Saturday afternoon (start of a new campaign) and Sunday night in our ongoing Family Matters campaign.

Something about rain and pour.... could not be more exited though

In am mixed. I have the most used books both physical and in pdf, but I use pdf most... if that makes sense.

By the way, I really dislike the pdf format as it does not scale for different screen sizes.

As DM I use milestones(*) in my current campaigns. I struggle enough keeping my session notes in order, don't need the extra administration of XP.

(*) in 5e terms, I mix "story-based advancement" and "session-based advancement". Milestones as explained in the 5e DMG is just XP in a trenchcoat

players are not their character. If a player can't solve the puzzle, their character might still solve it in a few seconds.
I ask the players to explain why and how their character solves it.

But, if the player can solve it, so can the character.

As long as the story is right, I'm ok with it.

Even though I play d&d a lot, d&d does not—and should not ever—get a monopoly (ha!) to the D20.

So, I oppose this idea.

I don't like the current dndbeyond website at all. Technically it is better than before, but the content is hidden behind so much marketing *?!**!

It may be on target for new users, but it definitely repels return visitors.

Nice! I did the same a few years ago, and it became an actual 6-person group (plus me) of all family. It's so much fun!

In a few weeks, we will finally start our new Spelljammer campaign. I pitched it as "monster of the week", but since we postponed the start for over a month, my preparations have been more extensive – there could be a bigger story in there, somewhere
